Thank you! She seemed a little dehydrated - dry poop when we were tending the eye, so she got some fresh gro-gel and nutridrench and is back sleeping under the brooder plate with her buddies. Hopefully she keeps improving tomorrow. Will use saline to flush in the morning!
Do you recommend separating her from the others? I worry about making chick pecking order dynamics worse by isolating her and then needing to re-interstate, but if it is bacterial/viral and contagious I don’t want it to spread.
Thank you for the quick reply. Sure - natural works for me! I have regular colloidal silver from CVS for us humans, are you referring to the same stuff? It’s ok to go straight on her eyeball?
We have a new batch of 8 chicks, one week old yesterday. Various breeds, all have been perfectly healthy up to today when we noticed that the Salmon Faverolle chick cannot open one of her eyes, I reviewed photos and she could definitely open her eye and no sign of problems last week. Details and...
The white long one in the middle is from our Polish, the creamy tan long skinny ones are from our Sicilian Buttercups.
The small oval cream ones at 12:00, 4:00 and 7:00 are from our D’Uccles.
The light brownish pink one on the far left at 8:00 is from our bantam Brahma.
And then the Easter...
I’m in CT and we get freezing temps regularly, but a couple of my 12 chickens are still laying even without light. I just check the nest boxes regularly - usually early afternoon and then again late afternoon when I close them back up in their coop. The eggs come out so warm, it would take being...
Thank you for the input that Portia is a hen - I got confirmation yesterday when i caught her in the nesting box laying!! Her large comb threw me off. But she’s definitely a hen! :)
Love my d’uccles! I have three: two porcelain and one Mille Fleur. One of my porcelain’s has a much larger comb, and I’m wondering if she is a he - but they are 7 months old and she hasn’t crowed yet. So, we’ll see. Here’s a pic of Portia, whom I’m not sure is a pullet or a cockerel... what do...
I have a bantam EE who looks like your Cleopatra! This is Lucky, so named because she survived a raccoon attack when she was just 5weeks old. She lost a wing in the battle, but she’s spunky and so so sweet - really bonded to us during her recovery in the house. This picture is when she was about...
She’s the reason we got chickens this year - she had been asking for 3 years (since she was 3yo!) and we finally took the plunge. She’s a great chicken farmer!
Right now Flock B is a mixed flock of Bantams and Standards, and they are fine. We purposefully chose large fowl that are not that large when mature so as to avoid issues. Hopefully since the mixed flock is used to being mixed, a few more bantams will just be more of the norm. :)
