Ah bless , I am going to do that as soon as he moves to the brooder tomorrow. I won’t have him for more than a few days , as I am travelling and have a full on job . But I have lined up a ‘duck rescue home’ where he will be looked after And have many more ducks to grow up with . I’ll be sad...
He is a rescued egg from my garden . His mom laid a couple of eggs last month by the little pond we have , but never came back for it. I had two on the incubator , the other one wasn’t fertile . X
He couldn’t have hatched on his own . I think humidity was too low during incubation, the membrane was all leathery .. I made an executive call to help him at the 40 hour from pip mark . I am glad I did . There was no unabsorbed yolk , no red blood vessels , the little fella was ready to come...
Thank you , I have a better view now . Here’s a video of the baby duck 40 hours since 1st external pip . I can see a sticky yellow fluid below the membranes
I can see the beak making chewing motions and a yawn too ! Which means I'll leave it alone for now :) .. I agree so much less stressful to watch them hatch naturally , I wasn't expecting to assist the first hatch lol.. At least its alive and seems to be ok , which is most important
I couldn’t see one or I failed to identify one . The moment I peeled out the outer membrane near the pip , a beak came gushing out , so dark inside , I am a bit scared to inspect further . If nothing develops for another 10 hrs am I ok to intervene?
So I went ahead and quickly took the duck out of the incubator and I had to peel out the brown outer membrane that was on the external pip , the moment I did that , I saw a little beak coming out, and peeping .
Right OK, so air cell was pretty big but its a small egg . And you are right the baby did take longer than 24 hours to pip externally from internal , and I was quite worried about that. But it really has made very little/ no progress since the 1st external pip ( which was 37 hrs ago) and the 2nd...
Thank you , it’s been roughly 37 hours since the 1st pip which was around 2am on the 27th . I dearly hope it doesn’t come to it ,fingers crossed . So the dark thing vibrating in the video is the membrane and it’s moving because the duckling is breathing through it ?
