I don't have a chicken vet. I just asked my regular dog/cat vet to write a script for it. In Georgia the vet wrote a script and I filled it at a local pharmacy, I have since moved to a new state and the new vet was a bit resistant but I asked twice and provided him with dosing info (link below)...
Right above that it says make a 12% stock solution by adding the whole packet to a gallon of water, then take 2 tablespoons of that solution and add to a gal of drinking water.
Never dealt with coccidiosis before. Fingers crossed they will recover (only one looks puffed up and lethargic).
Wish...
I have had Mareks in my flock for over 10 years and have not lost a bird in 8 years. After learning about it and realizing it is a herpes virus triggered by stress I take steps to ensure my birds, especially adolescents integrating with the flock, are NOT overly stressed/bullied. Adolescents...
Have four six-week-old leghorn chicks that are showing signs of coccidiosis (lethargy and bloody looking diarrhea). Just found out the feed store no longer sells Corrid so I stopped at the vet and he gave me a pack of SMZ-Med 454 (Sodium Sulfamethazine).
Update I mixed 2 oz into a pint of...
She has been getting egg yolk since day one (and wet feed, dry feed, whatever she is in the mood to eat). The other chicks don't bully her but they are a rowdy bunch so she gets fed the egg separately.
Just ordered some Rooster Booster Poultry Cell. Wish I had some on hand last week but better...
@HoneyBeeHomestead @Eggcessive Happy to report the chick is MUCH better! (I recovered my old account.) Thanks again for the great advice. Leaving her in that brace could have caused even more problems.
As mentioned she was left for dead at the bottom of the shipping box along with two other...
No way to remove it all once it hits bare wood (other than sanding). Putting feedbags up behind the roosts helps.
For new hen houses coating the walls behind the roosts with BlackJack57 is the best solution (and the floors, and the ramps etc...). Poop brushes right off that stuff once dry.
Thanks for the input! And yes I will use 12 ft metal roofing panels over 11 ft runs for some overhang. Runs face the South so they should get enough sun.
Will just use BlackJack57 on the floor (and poop shelves, and ramps, and everywhere else poop lands inside. Will add venting too.
I am in...
Relocating to Arkansas and construction will start on my dream coop in 2 weeks. Design calls for a 8x24 insulated wood building (walk-in) with covered runs. Summers can hit 95-100, it rarely snows in winter but temps can drop to 0 and my birds are NOT cold tolerant. See floor plan and pics that...
So sorry to hear that. With tiny chicks (or any very young critters) they can go downhill very fast. If he couldn't get to water then heat/dehydration may also have been the culprit.
@casportpony If you are around can you help with this? Trying to figure out if this chick has a break or infection and how to best treat it.
To the OP keep an eye on his toes and make sure the swelling doesn't get worse with the bandage on. It is possible his curled toes may need a little...
Well I bought 3 Sapphire Gems at Tractor Supply (via Hoovers Hatchery). They were supposed to be pullets and sex-linked pullets at that.
One out of the 3 is.....drumroll.....obviously not a pullet. :)
Have since googled and read other people have had the same issue with Hoover's "sex linked"...
