Thank you for your reply. I'm going to study her this weekend. I work full time, so unable to access her during the day. She was still eating mealworm this morning, and yesterday ate the yoghurt unaided. So i'll see how she fairs over the next 24/48 hours. I did discuss the hormone implant...
Sjisty, I wouldn't say she's ready to be written off yet. When I took her to the vet on Wednesday I did say that if she is suffering I would do what's best for her. The vet wasn't forthcoming with the suggestion to put her to sleep. She instead suggested some meds and a review in 2 weeks if of...
That's a great link, thank you. I'll spend some time reading it. That lovely hen pictured in the foreground looks the same as my poorly Linda
Thank you. I'll try that this evening.
My modest brood of 3 are my first hens. They are 3 years old this year. I'm forever learning from these forums...
Hi folks
I recently posted on another thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/892243/hen-is-lethargic-disinterested-and-drooped-tail#post_13579460
My girl has been to the regular vet 4 times and had 4 doses of antibiotic. I was later referred to an exotic bird specialist. They have...
Hi
Thank you for the reply. I'll check those links now. I do give them Apple Cider in their water. I'll try popping some garlic in too. I'm taking her back to the vet again tonight.
Hi all.
My 3 year old hen hasn't been herself for a weeks now. Her tail is often drooped, sometimes tired and lethargic, but of late mostly just disinterested. She is eating and drinking and enjoyed her treat of grapes yesterday. A few weeks ago she seemed really poorly; looked like she was...
Sorry for the late reply. I appreciate the responses. We have been locking them
out during the day, but have found that their egg laying is so erratic and they are laying on their poop tray, locking them out is probably not helping the situation.
I'm going to try the herbal bedding as...
We've had our hens for 2 years and this heightened behaviour has only been the case for the last couple of weeks. Their behaviour is so erratic they knock their perches off and are now scratching so hard on the newly revealed bare metal on their poop tray they are cutting grooves in it with...
Hi all
My hens are still behaving odd. They are insistent on scratching all their bedding out of their nesting box. Then they go into their perched area and scratch all the wood chippings out of the poop tray and once they've kicked as good as all the chippings out of this area continue to...
OMG I had no idea about peelings. Thanks for that.
We've had 2 eggs today. The lethargic hen has gone back to her old self and 2 of them are calm.
Thanks again for that link. I always thought we were doing well by them.
Hi all
For the last week our hens have been behaving badly. They go into their nesting box and scratch all their bedding out. They go into the chicken coop and behave erratic and knock down their perches. They jump back down into the run, then as quick as a flash they are back in their coop...
Sorry for the delay in replying. It seems a lack of calcium was her issue. She's 90% back to normal now. Eating and drinking but no eggs yet.
Thank you for the replies.
Hi all.
I hope you can advise for my somewhat poorly Sussex Star.
We have a modest brood of 3 hens, our Sussex Star spent most of yesterday being very lethargic, slow moving and uninterested. I assume it was her that laid the soft shelled egg as the other two are behaving normally.
She's...
Thanks for the reply. The moulting seems to have slowed, but her behaviour and mood is still different. I put mealworms (her usual favourite) and Sunflower seeds neither of which she was crazy about. I'll be getting some cat food today for a trial. Thanks again.
