Excellent information! I have sent a message to the Texas A&M extension office and will just keep the bird Refrigerated until I hear from them on Monday.
All the best!

Thanks for the Response. They do free range several times during the week and have access to the compost pile, but there would not be any meat/flesh in there. I have not wormed them, but don't notice any signs of an infestation. We do have mites that we attempt to keep at bay with Wood ash...
I just lost my third Hen to "Disease" and could use some help with Diagnosis, Treatment, and Prevention.
We lost the first around Thanksgiving, the second was 3 weeks ago, and the latest died last night.
All three hens, the first two were White Laced Red Cornish and the latest was an...
Hi everyone, I've been stressing for months because my 8 hens had not layed any eggs. One Easter Egger did lay for 3 weeks or so back in August, but then quit (I'm guessing due to the heat). I looked into everything-Food, Predators, Parasites, Molt, Etc and was satisfied that I was doing...
In addition to raising chickens, we also make our own Beer. As such we often have large quantities of Malted Barley that could potentially be fed to the chickens as scratch. Just curious if anyone has done this and if there are any problems with it? I did give some to them yesterday and they...
Just finished our new Coop-Home to our four 7-8 week old White Laced Red Cornish and three 14-15 week old Easter Eggers and thought I'd share some pics. Thanks to everyone on here for ideas and inspiration!
Enjoy!
I didn't want to hijack the other thread, but aside from the standard practices with integrating new birds to a flock are there any special considerations when adding three older pullets/hens (14 weeks) to a flock of five 7-8 week old birds? Would it perhaps be easier? Thinking that the...
We have been putting ours out in the yard since they were about 10 days old. They are out whenever we are outside so generally evenings and weekends. Haven't quite got them to go back into their run on command yet, but we're working on it.
Was letting the girls (Five 6 week old WLRC ) free range a bit last night while I was working in the yard-They had gotten out of my sight, but I could still hear them when all of the sudden they started making a LOT more noise and I could tell they were in distress. I peeked out from behind...
I E-mailed the Feed Store where I purchased them. I sent photos and explained my confusion over the breed, as they don't appear to be Cornish Cross; They contacted the hatchery and it turns out they are "White Laced Red Cornish". Not the perfect Egg Layers I was hoping for, but certainly better...
Still very similar-Thanks for the photo. Makes me feel comfortable that I don't have Cornish X, curious to see how they mature. I'll post updates down the road.
Thanks
