Thank you once more.
Would you recommend placing her in the dark for say 3 days to prevent her from laying for a while.
The vent didn’t look prolapsed but I’ll take the advice on board. I’ll buy some oyster shell and calcium tablets.
How would I feed her the tablet?
THANK YOU SO MUCH I’ll try and pull it out gently in a warm bath
I feed her nromal eggs layer pellets and a mix of sunflower seeds and corn
They get grit and treats occasionally
I don’t have any oyster shell on hand
This hen lays very large eggs bless her
Do you think I should try and...
Nope not writing a book. I’m way inexperienced to do that.
I’m from the uk and I’ve kept hens for about 7 years now but was updating my medicines for the flock
I have never wormed my flock with medicines is that the same as feeding them those pellets with worm ex
Hi
I was wondering what kind of chicken medications, treatments and preventative measures you can buy to keep your chickens well.
And if someone could explain the effectiveness of the medication and what it’s used for that would be great!
The worse eye
The black stuff is dead skin and it’s come off the bottom, just the top and around her crown to come off
I did see her trying to get it off but you can definitely see her lovely eye!
This was the better eye and it looks great.
Just waiting for a few more days maybe the rest...
That’s so nice of you
But I think she has recovered really well!
I do have svalon but thankfully her eyes weren’t too bad at all. It was just the infection and pus initially which was the worst bit, but that’s all cleared up
Thank you!
She is doing really well!
I have another hen who does have MG she tends to get ill in the winter bless her but I treat her with antibiotics and keeping warm inside
I will keep cleaning her eyes and see how it looks
The worse eye
There is some yellow there (I don’t think it’s too infected now) there is the patch of dried flaking off dead skin just under the eye which I’m washing twice/three times a day but she can see through it now, she can eat an drink herself as she can see the food!
The second eye -...
I don’t think there is any pus inside her mouth, she eats perfectly fine and drinks fine
Her eyes are improving loads! She can see more and the infection and smell is gone (just a whiff)
There is some peeling scabs of dead skin or dried blood (where she got pecked) coming off her her face...
Today
I still use the saline in both eyes and to clean to again and warm water
In the second pic, does that look like her eye is still there? I can’t see it properly yet but it’s opened a lot more since the pus has gone
Haven’t been able to go to the pharmacy for an eye wash yet
However the saline is amazing!
So far the smell she had is literally gone, infection must be cleared up!
Her good eye is half open but not fully but she does look around be alert - a very tough hen
Her bad eye, I can only see...
Update
-
I saw some more pus outside her eye today morning and I’ve just brought her in cleared it up, saline in both eyes
The good eye is just about opened halfway although it’s not improving or not opening any more
The bad eye was cleaned again and I checked inside her eye and I could just...
