One of my hens has stopped laying eggs a few days ago, I then noticed she was panting/gasping for breath. However it’s not all the time.
I have thought maybe she is egg bound (her vent does seem to moving quite often) or it’s possibly gapeworm.
I have never had a hen with gapeworm - if it was...
It is cute, and sometimes I just laugh at the way I find the 2 them. The Pekin is small but not chick small...surely it cant be comfortable having a 'chick' that big trying to sit under you
So recently 2 of my hens both around 1 year old have decided they are a mother hen and chick! It started with my Pekin getting broody, I was constantly lifting eggs as soon as they were laid and lifting her outside. Then one morning I found the bigger hen sitting on the Pekin in the nest box...
Thanks for all the messages, much appreciated.
Yea the nest looks absolutely fine, I have no idea what happened.
I had no incubator or anything to transfer the the eggs in to, so opened them to check what was actually happening. Looks like one probably would have made it to hatch.
My year old welsummer recently went broody again after hatching out a chick a couple months ago.
Everything was fine up until about 4 days ago (2 weeks after starting to sit on the eggs). It started with her coming off the eggs for longer periods of time, up to an hour at times but the weather...
I know this thread is over a year old now, however thought it would be worth a try getting an answer.
This is exactly what my hen is doing at the moment and I was wanting to know did you find out what it was? And what did you do to fix it?
Many thanks
