    Healthy Chicken Poop Looks Like......

Hi Everybody. I need some information. One of my three hens is excreting thin tan colored liquid. The other two are pooping puffy tan and white blobs. I assume the blobs are just perfect. What does the tan liquid indicate? These chickens have been given wormer in their water. Thanks!!

Wet and Dry Fowl Pox - Graphic Pictures of Pus and Scabs

Thank you! So simple! This should be made into a link on Backyard Chickens front page. We all need to do this. I lost 16 birds this year to fowl pox and related infections!!!

    Worming with Horse Wormer

Very interesting. I did the same math to figure out how much Ivermectin ( a horse wormer) I should give to a 65 lb. dog to prevent heartworms. It's the exact same medicine as the expensive vet stuff. Now, with the birds and Safeguard, you are saying get a pea sized amount into their mouths? I...

Wet and Dry Fowl Pox - Graphic Pictures of Pus and Scabs

I have had enough of mysterious invisible (and visible) diseases. Can anybody tell me how and where immunization is done? Thanks

    Unknown Disgusting Smell- Rescue Chickens

Yes, you are so right. But most people don't even have 400 feet to work with. Now, to be honest, wild birds which have much closer access to our flocks, can be carrying anything to them. I put on plastic grocery bags over my shoes and rubber gloves to care for them today! Shades of ebola. I took...

    Unknown Disgusting Smell- Rescue Chickens

They are mostly white with fine black and white feathers around the neck ruff area. They have rather long legs. They have no tails but they were possibly bitten off. They are eating and drinking this morning. They actually seem SLIGHTLY less stinky but I wouldn't put any money on it. WHAT is a...

    Unknown Disgusting Smell- Rescue Chickens

Hi All, Okay, I wasn't planning on it. Daddy came home from some place where the owner was getting busted for having too many filthy, uncared for animals. They were going to euthanize the chickens so Daddy took two home. Of course I did NOT put them in with my healthy ones. They are in a large...

    They're Nearly All Dead

Thank you. I really appreciate your response. I just came in from the coop. I've taken all obljects out of there and have washed them down. Next I will spray with bleach. I just took a look at that silkie who had fowl pox. It's back. She has nine lives, however. She's running around, eating and...

    They're Nearly All Dead

Thanks. What kind of money are you talking about? What are your sources for tests and birds? Thanks so much.

    They're Nearly All Dead

The symptoms for all of the dead ones are the same. NO BREATHING PROBLEMS. The heavy breed birds would continue to eat and drink but for several days before death their tails would be pointed toward the ground and they would sit hunched up with their eyes closed. The silkies "tried" to stay...

    They're Nearly All Dead

Thank you. The coop has been kept clean. It has not been overcrowded. They have 3 nest boxes (used to be rabbit hutches so they're big with roofs). They have had fresh water every day. They have never had moldy food. But they all have this virus. At keast I think it's a virus.

    They're Nearly All Dead

Hi, Some months ago i posted several times in the thread about fowl pox. I had about 8 chickens and one silkie came down with fowl pox. I used the suggestions given and treated her several times with iodine. This chicken has survived all that awful pox stuff and she's fine now. Meanwhile four...

Weaken, Fall Over and Die Disease

Hi, I've had chickens on and off for years. They are kept in a secure coop that has a dirt floor, hay and roosting boxes. Predators can't get in. I bought four silkie pullets about 4 months ago. I also have 3 other pullets and a rooster. One of the silkie pullets weakened and died overnight...

Wet and Dry Fowl Pox - Graphic Pictures of Pus and Scabs

Hi, I can't hold her sill for a photo. It's a large dry yellow bump on her beak. She's a black silkie.
