i'm still learning this...I guess I've had my ducks for about a year now. I had 1 female indian runner, 4 female cayugas, 1 female cross (Cayuga and runner), and one drake runner....until the hatch. I have actually lost a few babies, not sure why. and that's another issue. my whole reason...

hatched some ducks, now they are not laying anymore

ok, so last summer I bought one indian runner duck and one runner drake. also 4 Cayuga ducks, and one Cayuga/ indian runner cross duck. The cross and the indian runner started laying last fall, and this spring, the cayugas joined them. for a couple months we were getting 6 eggs a day...way more...

Can you eat a once frozen egg?

but botulism is mostly found in can goods. the biggest threat in an egg i believe would be salmonella.

well, its a little over a month later, and everything is going well. I have been away for work for the last 3 weeks, and my GF has been looking after the ducks alone. I just finished making an automatic waterer for her with some toilet parts and heat trace wire, and also a large food hopper to...

Comment by 'sprouticus' in article 'Automatic Chicken Waterer Made From 5 Gallon Bucket'

i used a similar setup, except i drilled a hole in the bottom of my bucket and hooked my braided line up to that directly. with the gasket that the toilet kit came with i don't have any leaks, and this eliminated the need for a bracket of any kind. my waterer is in a hole, and sits on a base...

they have a coop and get locked up everynight....its been that way since a few weeks after i got them. I believe I mentioned that. also I don't think a predetor could even get inside the 8 foot fence......we don't have raccoons in this area. can't think of any local predetor that could climb...

its been dipping below freezing here at night lately. I would say -3 celcius....i don't know what that converts to...somewhere around 30 farenheit i think. its not usually this cold this time of year, but it is this year. and i appreciate your advice....it shows you care and i respect that...

pulling out all the feathers on the new duckling.

since posting this a couple of hours ago, I have brought the young duck inside with me. I know it has been eating...cause it has pooped 4 times that i know of. My big dog is locked in my bedroom, and less than impressed that a duck now has reign of his house, but whatever. Shortly after i got...

ok, you've convinced me. the light is going off. at least until the feathers grow back and this duck gets bigger. I just read this today about it causing problems with chickens. surprisingly, no matter how i worded it, i couldn't seem to find a slotution to this problem online. i've been...

i've also read that you could take the duck thats getting picked on, and your least aggresive duck, and put them off by themselves for a while. My issue with that is now that the other baby has passed, the least aggresive duck is the indian runner, and she is giving me eggs and i don't want to...
