found this guy/girl in my chicken yard this morning. Not good with snakes. Any idea what kind? I have managed to catch it and put it in a big bucket for my husband to deal with later. It's small, I looked for more or a nest or egg shells but didn't find any. Just wondering what I had in there.
Raccoon, skunk, possum, fox, coyote, cat, dog, bobcat would be the big ones for overnight. Snakes can be an issue. I use snake away and set some 2 liter bottle traps with eggs in them. We have a couple crows that hang around during the day, seems to have stopped the hawks from coming in close...
Started a second coop as a grow out pen for new chicks say 4 weeks to about 10-12. Looking for suggestions on similar builds. This one being built out of a trampoline frame. I framed in the front. I have an old aluminum storm door for that. Going to put tin on the bottom in front yet with...
Well, life got in the way as someone said and then chased me for all it was worth, but the chicken house is done. Not the prettiest thing, but it is sturdy and no predators in it. This is how it looks in the winter. There is no plastic on the front most of the year and hardware cloth behind...
Do you put it on the drill bit or where you are drilling. I bought 2 sizes of good quality drill bits for drilling metal, but its hard. I was drilling a small hole first and then the larger one to fit my bolts. once I start attaching the hardware cloth I can stick with the small one because I...
Update, work got in the way and I didn't get back to it till this afternoon. It is tough going drilling through the corner posts, but I'm getting there.
Attaching to the metal is the thing. I've been drilling through the wood and metal and using bolts with big washers and then good wood screws for any framing. It's a headache, so much extra to get it together, but in the end I hope it'll be better. I'm excited about it.
Where did you'all get the clear corrugated plastic? All I've ever seen is green around here that I picked up on the side of the road after a storm. I'm thinking about different material to close in the 4th side of a new coop over hardware cloth in the winter, but I love the light in your coop.
I used hardware cloth in the bottom of the house, below a roost in a chicken tractor so poop would just fall through, and I constantly had to scrape and use the garden hose to clear it. Wish I never had put it in. Just a thought. Don't you love the excitement of planning? We all live and learn.
