We don't really get winter here in Southeast GA...
I use metal dog kennel type coops (basically like the Retriever brand from TSC). I have 150sqft of contained space as it's set up right now. I also have the ability to let them free range some on my 5 acres, but I'll be getting an electric...
Hello, I currently have a flock of 11 birds all about 6 months old. I've got an opportunity to pick up another 8-10 birds that are a little younger (3 months old). What's the best way to integrate them into my flock?
My coop is made from dog kennels, and I do have the option of leaving them...
OK, so I'm sure this has been discussed here but I'm scratching my head on this one.
I got chicks back in early Spring, so at this point they are 9-10 months old. Out of the 8 I originally got, I have 6 left. Back in the summer the chickens started laying and I went a period of about 3 weeks...
Does anyone use a stationary coop with electric netting vs a tractor for pastured chickens? Thinking about going this way vs moving around the yard all the time, but my primary concern would be hawks/owls/eagles.
Does anyone use this brooder heater? I want to set up my brooder in my basement and not have to worry with fire risks. Will one of these work for about 20-25 broilers at a time?

I'm considering investing in a chicken plucker and thought I might rent it out locally to recoop some funds. Does anyone here do this? Thoughts? How do you limit exposure of getting stolen, etc?
Has anyone kept up with feed #s per bird per week? A local poultry farm has all ages of broilers for sale, and prices them by age. My math brain is curious if there is a benefit to buying slightly older birds vs chicks based on feed consumption. For instance, 2-4 week old birds are $6 each vs $3...
I've seen that # before I think but didn't know if broilers may be different since they're in the brooder for such a short period before moving to the coop/tractor.
