Ducks make a huge mess with their water. You can browse through these threads for ideas on how to set up the water dish to catch the mess and keep the brooder dry. If you do this from the start you will save yourself alot of cleaning and smelly cage! I didn't figure it out until about 2 weeks in...
I have 4 ducklings about 5 1/2-6 weeks old. I had this problem last week. All 4 were missing wing feathers but one was really bad and had bloody tips. After a few tries on removing different ones from the group I figured out who the biggest bully was. We had them all inside at that point in a...
Yes it seems like Blue is the target because she has the little shafts still sticking out and the others want to nibble at her like it's food on her or something. Today it is finally sunny and warm after days of tornado type weather. So they are all outside. I have the main aggressor Fritz (who...
Dealing with this now. I have 4 ducklings about 5 weeks old. I noticed them preening each other before but they were all doing it to each other and no one yelped and I thought it was normal. About a week ago (maybe less) their wing feathers came in and were absolutely beautiful. Now every single...
The ducklings got to play in their pen today. It is very much still a work in progress. At least they have a confined outdoor space to exercise in because the indoor cage is very quickly becoming to small.
I'm not sure if @albinosilver got their question answered, but you all have been most helpful to me. 2 weeks in we have used 11 pounds of feed already and are only eating more and more. So at that rate they will be through this bag before they are 8 weeks old, which is when @Jpat recommend...
When I researched duck feed after already having bought this, the protein did seem high compared to what I was reading on different sites. I'm considering going and getting a lower protein feed now and just mixing the 2 together. I would hate to cause them a problem that could be avoided, even...
I'm new to ducks but the feed suggested to me at the supply store is RanchPro gamebird starter-grower. It's protein content says 28% and the tag says ducks can use it as a complete ration until 14 weeks. It is a 40lb bag and the guy at the store said since we got 4 ducks just use it till it was...
We already take them out back to play in the water and forage in the grass when the weather is warm enough. The last few days it has been to cold so I swim them in the tub. Yesterday they knew it was bath time but I was busy cleaning the the rabbits cage and they would not stop their incessant...
Well, Last cruise we sent the dogs to 2 different people and just overtocked the cat and rabbit on food and water. Both of which were out of food when we got home.:( So I think with the addition of more critters needing cared for, I will probably employee one of my teens friends to come by the...
I was wondering if Fritz may be crested. I posted in another thread and I think the consensus is yes. I wasn't sure because the crest is on the side of the head not the top and I only found 1 picture of a duck with feathers on the side of its head.
Based purely on speculation of their vocal attributes I think this one may be a male too. It seems to be the quietest of the 4. Doesn't hardly make a peep when you pick it up and doesn't throw a holy fit about being the only one left behind when they are being transported to or from the bath.
We got them from Atwoods and the guy there didn't know the exact age. He said they get them at a few days old and he thought they had been there about a week. We have had them 2 weeks today. SO, that would make them just shy of 4 weeks at best guess.
I just got my ducklings 2 weeks ago. My daughter picked this one and when we 1st got it, we thought it just had a bit of extra fluff on it's head. Now I'm wondering is this a crested duck? I have scoured over images on google and have only come across 1 picture that had feathers coming off the...
