Hello BYC, anyone interested in splitting an order of 25 chicks from Whitmore Farms? I'll be living in Riverside CA and aiming for sometime April 13-June 13 for delivery. These will be straight order of at least 25, Welsummers, Americaunas, Delawares, Marans, or olive eggers.
Thanks!
Stef
I'd try bathing her in warm water with a tiny bit of mild soap--if it's a clump of mud or something, it should soften and break apart. It it's fleshy, it could hurt her to cut it off! Good luck!
Thanks for all the info! Its a relief to know that other people have hens that do a little crowing. I'm gonna assume then that everything is fine unless she stops laying and seems ill--right now she is spunky as ever, keeping all the other hens in line and being her usual loud and proud self...
Um...I've had roosters before but have NONE now. My hen, the flock dominant golden laced wyandotte just crowed. She has always been the loudest and likes to stand around yelling all day (I must have very understanding neighbors). This afternoon in addition to her normal cackling, she is actually...
Hi there,
Fowl pox can look something like this--can be irregular, scabby pox, like big chicken pox on the face, comb and wattles. We're getting it now in central California since the mosquito population is revving up. With dry pox you'd just offer general TLC and wait for it to pass. But...
Hello BYC,
I'm hoping to buy my first incubator and try my hand at hatching my first eggs (well...I had a broody red laced wyandotte and she hatched out a brood of 8 for me!).
Any suggestions for the brand or model that would work well? I want to hatch small batches of 6-14 eggs for fun and to...
Dont know if its bad, but mine like to eat/pick at pine shavings in the evenings before going to bed. Used to freak me out cause chicks can die of this, but now I'm used to their crazy ways and don't stress about it. They eat sunflower seeds with the shell on and seem fine...I figure they just...
Our green eggs peel great when boiled, even fresh on the day they're layed! We start the water at a rolling boil, very gently place eggs in with a slotted spoon, boil 10-12 min depending on soft/hard boil, and fish them out with the spoon to plunge into iced/cold water and peel when the outside...
Good luck with the birds...It breaks my heart to see animals treated that way...kudos to you for rescuing them. It takes a lot of time and patience to heal that many chickens, I wish you all the best! I'll be thinking of those poor chickens and will be hoping for a speedy recovery. Is there any...
Thanks for the details on Tylan for the eyes, I think I'll check out 1st state vet supplies too.
I thought the foot lesions were bumblefoot (black scab on the foot pad bottom) but then one hen got raised, infected-looking bumps on the top of her two middle toes so I took her to the vet. The...
Also, what makes people think this looks like the pox virus? Is there anything that tips you off?
And Lorelei, where did you hear about Tylan50 in the saline flush?
Thanks!
Thanks for all the support! Dealing with chicken illness is so draining cause I just feel kinda helpless...I never imagined fowl pox from last spring could cause something like this, so it's good to hear it looks like pox again from someone with experience, because that was my hunch (after the...
Hi, it's been two days and the eye seems a bit crustier. Does anyone have any advice? Has anyone seen this before or think it's worth going to the vet for? I swabbed the whole area with warm water and a cloth to clean it, but that's all I can think of.
Thanks!
