    Rooster destroying eggs

I understand there is no way for him to know. The question still remains as to why is he doing it. Is it because there is another male? This has never happened before and he's about a year old, his son is about 5 months.

    Rooster destroying eggs

Isn't the whole point of the cycle of life to procreate? So why is he destroying fresh eggs? Lol well thats hard. They free range and we currently have a broody that has taken over the coop so the other girls lay wherever they deem appropriate and sometimes we can't get right to them. We will...

Can someone please tell me if the brown one is a rooster and the white one a hen? they are about 4 months old silkie americauna cross is what I was to

So if you look at their tail feathers roosters are said to have a more dagger like shape where hens are more rounded off. The fact the black one has tail feathers that are that long makes me think that is a roo.

Also this will come out sounding rude but there are so many different things I've heard people thought were true so I'm just gonna ask....you do have a rooster in order for the hens to lay fertile eggs correct?

Are those white ones (leg horns) roosters?! They have pretty long tail feathers for hens. I've never seen a spot on the shell, only once I crack an egg open do I see the bullseye.

We have not witnessed any fighting and they tend to stay across the yard from one another. Today my older...

    My roo won't stop!!

Good to know about the crowing during the day and yes there is a street light that he might be able to see as well as a bedroom light (coop is right behind the house). Ill see if I can throw up something to block the light and see if it helps. Thanks!!

    My roo won't stop!!

Hes youngish, not even a year old yet (maybe 6 months??). His girls - that we got at the same time - are still not laying eggs yet if that tells you anything.

When it is really cold we have a heat lamp set up but it isn't that cold right now so I've been leaving it off for that very reason! I feel like it's gotten really bad since I am keeping it off but maybe I'm just paying more attention.
