I've got my chicken run pretty well fenced out and cleaned out. I was thinking to plant something inside that they could eat. However, I was told that it won't work because the chickens will peck and claw it to death. I was reading about mint, lavender, etc. What do you guys put inside?
I'm in the process of constructing my run fence for my chickens. The problem is I have a very sloped area. I originally started to use 4' Welded fence wire with 5.5' t-post. I have around 130' of fence run. I believe the boxes in the wire are around 2" high. Unfortunately when doing this I...
So I've had my baby chicks for a few months now. I just put them out in the the underside of the coop I'm building. I live in Maryland. I have 8 New Sex Links and 4 Rhode Island Reds. Not sure how to describe how old they are but they are fully feathered and are large enough that you need...
So I guess I realized I kinda realized I have many chicks and as a result i will need a rather large coop. So I have around 12 chicks. They are in a brooder right now but I will need to build a coop pretty fast. I have very good DIY skills and capable of doing this, but I need some general...
Guys, how about this?

Looks like you put a capsule in every 8 oz of water.
Thanks, so the salmonella is something that they live with kinda in a symbiosis. I'm worried my kids may touch and not wash their hands etc. I guess I'm wondering if it's too much to ask to feed them some sort of medicine to kill the pathogen so that throughout their life my risk is zero.
So roughly a week after getting my first batch of chicks I starting come down with a really bad stomach bug. To be honest I didn't wash my hands every time I handled them and I was the primary person touching them. I handled them a lot because I was really curious about chicks. It was real...
Thanks evwevery. I forget to ask .I currently have 8 chicks. Someone told me that I should get more since chicks die etc . Is 4 more crazy since im starting? Would it be overwhelming?
So you are saying you can feed them the 20% for their entire lifespan. I see these other feeds on the site that are "pellet" and are 16% protein. It says it's for layers? What's the difference. Thanks
Thanks, what's a good breed that will last years but lay a moderate amount of eggs. Also, I've been only really concerned about egg laying but haven't thought of slaughtering later or maybe breeding with a rooster. Does the breeding part increase the complexity?
Thank you very much for your reply.
My plan was to buy 4 more (same size) chicks. Maybe ISA brown or another chick. I did read if you intermix sizes you will get fightings.
So I'm kinda new to this but I've read a great deal to be confident enough on what I'm doing. However i do have some questions. Pic attached is from yesterday. So far I have placed them in the large cargo container I could find. I have a 250 watt infrared heat lamp in there and a thermometer...
