    My goose is sitting!

Thanks for checking in! She is off the nest, and she abandoned the eggs herself so I know to trust her judgement in future and let her be ❤️

    My goose is sitting!

Thanks for the advice. I’ll leave her be for now, see how she manages in the coming weeks. And maybe order another goose house 🤦🏼‍♀️

    My goose is sitting!

Thanks! I have 8 other geese and one is an experienced mum so she would be ok when the babies arrive. Or rather if they arrive. My main concern is that she will find it hard to sit in cold weather and the eggs may not withstand the temperature if she gets up for a stretch and doesn’t cover them...

    My goose is sitting!

My 18 month Embden goose has gone broody. She’s been laying for about 6 weeks now and started sitting yesterday. I have been taking her eggs but I have a flock of ducks and they tend to lay alongside her, somehow the last few days she has hidden a bunch of eggs and now there’s a stash of about...

    Embden gosling with grey head

Hi there! I am a new goose owner: I bought a breeding pair of Embden back in March and they settled right in and started a family. I have five goslings, now 8 weeks old. They are feathering up nicely but one has a grey head and back (feathers rather than down). She looks a little different in...

Four ducks, one nest = staggered clutch?

I'm hoping the ducks work out how to be gentle once more ducklings come along. My goose is huge and clumsy, and inseparable from the equally oafish gander, but together they managed to brood 9 ducks and some goslings without crushing any of them!

Four ducks, one nest = staggered clutch?

Aha! Yes, I suppose they could have snuck some extra eggs in. I'll leave them for a while and get the incubator on standby in case they get up too soon on the final few eggs. I have been considering getting the brooder ready too. I don't have much confidence in their mothering skills (after the...

Four ducks, one nest = staggered clutch?

Hi there. I'm a first time duck owner and my girls are first time broodies. They're runner ducks and we know they're good for babies because we've previously hatched their eggs under a goose. The presence of the babies seemed to trigger the ducks to sit for themselves, so now I have a set of...

How do I care for my goose and her hatchlings?

Thank you! I have the pair in a large house so I can divide it with an aviary panel to keep the gander away for a few days. Since some of the hatchlings will be ducklings they’ll be tiny compared to him. Your advice is gold — I’ll dig out some bowls and I have the crumb ready. They’re not...

How do I care for my goose and her hatchlings?

My goose is sat on a mixed pile of duck eggs and her own eggs, due to hatch this week. She’s a first time mum, and this is my first time with a sitting goose too. She has been very conscientious in sitting — has hardly left her nest— so her house is a bit dirty as I haven’t been able to get in...

    Is my 2019 goose broody?

My Embden goose was an early 2019 baby and is paired with an unrelated gander. They’re definitely mating and she’s laying pretty much an egg a day at the moment, covering the clutch over with bedding. We are up to 5 now. She will occasionally sit on the eggs, uncovered, for an hour or so, then...
