MONTHLY Swap meet JACKSONVILLE, FLA-----INFO HERE!

Picked up "Cotton" at the swap in May. My wife was excited to get such a beautiful silkie hen. I noticed her trying to crow the other morning. Still no eggs yet either. So would anyone be bringing an older silkie HEN to the swap. My wife says that the color she would prefer is pretty. Must...

    I have a major concern.

If your an animal lover and want to save every fuzzy thing in existense; then you probably won't be able to do it. I have around 7-8 roos that are going to live to a ripe old age with no worries from me. Just accept that your food will come from the grocery store wrapped in plastic. or find a...

    Bare Dirt Floor??

Mine's dirt. My chickens seem happy. There is no smell (in a coop with no walls, wire only) I own litter scoopers.

Hen sleeping with mouth open & snoring

Maybe your chicken has sleep apnea? I have an Austrolorp that has been honking lately. The heat thing makes sense. It's been close to 100 here.

    One very LARGE chicken.

Are you sure that's a chicken? He looks like that thing from the star war movies. Jar Jar Binks(?).

    Morans or australorps?

Your pic is too close and out of focus but it looks like an Aussie. Look at the other pics. Aussies have clean legs and it appears that the marans have fuzzy legs. My aussies at 12 weeks still have white wing tips.

    FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

My chickens are special. I was going to put them up for the night around 8 when one of those wonderful Florida suprise storms started. You know the ones that come out of nowhere and drop 3" of rain in 2 minutes. So I figure that it will end in 5 minutes and surely my chickens are smart enough...

    Help! Unstable coop!

Just saw that you have 2x4's standing up as your top brace. The way a wall is built in a house is put your plywood floor down. Then a 2x4 layed flat. Vertical studs and then 2 2x4's layed flat as the top plate. The more places you can find to glue and screw the stronger your structure will be.

    Help! Unstable coop!

I'm not seeing anything wrong with your construction. Once you tie it all together it should become much sturdier. Construction adhesive like liquid nails or PL premium will go a long way towards giving you strength as well. Lay down a bead on each floor joist before you drop in the plywood...

    MOLTING questions... new to me

If they stopped laying it's probably molting. I have feathers everywhere also, but mine are just growing oldest being around 16 weeks.

Craigslist: What's wrong with this chicken?

Maybe it's my moniter; the thing looks like he had his head in a bag of pink koolaid.

Craigslist: What's wrong with this chicken?

Look at the chicken in the second pic at this link. His head is pink. Is this lighting, genetics, people doing odd things to their chickens? not that I haven't seen this trend here. http://jacksonville.craigslist.org/grd/2432901747.html

Will not go in their coop anymore

Has something changed about their coop? maybe a snake wandered through or some other critter. Maybe the sofa is just really comfy.
