Morans or australorps?

This is a pic of one of my Marans chicks when they were young... it's a little blurry but it shows its legs... my australorps had slate colored legs and the marans have slate on top of yellow... no feathers.

Thanks I will study thier legs. I have three with "Hairy legs" and 2 with smooth legs. Before I didn't notice a color difference but will take another gander. LOL

Any with feathered shanks would be Marans. Australorps don't have feathered shanks. It is possible to get marans without feathered shanks though as not everyone breeds for the feathered shanks.

I'd have to say the ones with feathered shanks are marans( that's my proffesional oppinion

) and the ones without could still be. Most of the marans I've raised have hatched with white wing tips but most lose them.

Those sure are a bunch of little cuties!

I stand corrected... I had never seen a Marans with feathered shanks but I did a google search and I did find a few pics with feathered shanks. Is this mainly a difference between hatchery chicks and breeders? I have never seen a hatchery website that lists Marans as "feather footed" I would assume most chicks come from hatcheries could this be the reason there seem to be so few with feathers on their legs? Interesting... I learned something new!
