    Deep injury

Thanks! It almost looks as if a piece of her back skin/fat has gotten pulled back. Once by backup has arrived to help me clean her up, I get some better pictures. I read we can put a sock over her head when we clean her up so she won't peck. Is this wise?

    Deep injury

One of the girls got attacked early this morning. Sir came to her rescue and scared off the assailant but not soon enough because Cheese is really injured :hit She isn't one of our most friendly chickens but I threw a towel over her and brought her inside. We rinsed off her wounds but not very...

    Ugh frostbite

My poor Faverolle Roos also have frostbite on their combs. It's supposed to dip down below zero for a few nights soon and I am also feeling terrible for them! I don't heat my coop due to the roosting bars being rather close to the top of the coop... The babes would DEFINITELY catch on fire...

How long are vaccinations good for?

So exciting! I screamed and did a happy dance and caused the whole flock of take off in their chicken butt sprint. :lau Tear down is definitely on the spring time to do list. It's currently attached to another building that might cause come issues when it comes to demo time. The previous owners...

How long are vaccinations good for?

This is my first flock! We bought a farm that had chickens on it previously, so I wasn't sure what is going on with the soil and etc here. We bought a new coop because the old one was pretty gross from years of it not being cleaned and maintained properly. I feel like I can never be too careful...

How long are vaccinations good for?

Hi!! When I ordered my babies from Cackle Hatchery, I got them vaccinated. How long does this Marek's vaccine last? Chickens are now 25 weeks old and healthy! I'm just wondering.

How to keep water from freezing without electricity

This may be impossible... BUT.... What are some ways that I can keep the chickies water from freezing without running any extension cords and using a heated water container? It's been in the 20's here in WV lately. I'm at work from 7-3:30 or I would just take fresh water down every few hours. I...

    Is my flock normal?

Oh my goodness  this sounds like a Stephen King novel! Mine only get crazy when there are tomatoes or strawberries involved!

    Who Was the Culprit?

When we first bought our farm, we inherited 7 chickens... And knew 0 about them! The coop/run they were in was terrible with holes all over the place. Racoons picked them off one by one in much the same fashion that you described and sometimes would rip the heads clean off... Since we didn't...

21 week old hens not laying

Since we selectively free range them, I don't give them grit too often. I see then pick up small pebbles and stones from the driveway. I mix acv in with their water. I didn't know about the garlic! Do I just sprinkle it in with their food? I haven't started oyster shells bc I read that it isn't...
