Jumbo Coturnix vs. Texas A&M & Coturnix

We sell the pharaoh coturnix eggs, as opposed to the jumbo or A&M coturnix. The pharaoh coturnix, if you dress them out, dresses out to about 4oz of meat. The Jumbo or A&M are a bit larger, if you dress them out, they are the equivalent to a Cornish hen.

    Bobs hatching soon, any tips?

We've just completed our hatch for the year, we got a 75% hatch rate with ours. Typically, our method hasn't deviated very much in years: 21 days in the rotation incubator, 100 degrees at 45-55% humidity, followed by 3 days in the setting incubator at 100 degrees at 55-65% humidity. Let the...

Having a hard time processing quail :(

That first one is hard, because you're thinking of the bird. The second one isn't a walk in the park, but it's easier. Sooner, as time goes on, you're going to be thinking mainly of how much pleasure you're giving your family by cooking up delicious and nutritious quail dinners! My favorite was...

    Hatching shipped eggs tips

There are right ways and wrong ways to ship eggs. We've been in the business of shipping bobwhite eggs for over 30 years, and what we do is we have our own boxes that we've worked on with a local box manufacturer that can withstand the rigors of shipping. In addition, we wrap the eggs in bubble...

    Amazing....13 hour power outage

That's been my experience as well. We're located near Savannah, Ga. One time about 15 years ago, I distinctly remember a hurricane bearing down on our city, and we had 6 Sportmans full of eggs about a few weeks in. Me and my father spent all night taking the eggs out, transporting them and 6...

Coturnix Quail Basics- Information and Pictures Galore

I'll just add from our experience, coturnix are very aggressive eaters. If you feed them in a trough, they inevitably scatter ALOT of the feed on the ground! Also, their droppings are much wetter than bobwhite, so cleaning them out once a week is ESSENTIAL!

Can you see if quail eggs are fertile?

I agree, assuming the male and the female are fertile, I would think most of the eggs should be fertile. You may want to try something smaller than a flashlight and buy an egg candler light. Again, you're just looking for a small dot, you may miss it if you're not used to looking for it.

    Incubation humidity questions

Shipped eggs doesn't need any more or less humidity than your own eggs. At least that's been our experience. We're in Georgia and have some fairly high humidity here. The thing is to make sure your incubator is in a climate controlled area. We use a GQF sportsman when incubating our eggs, and...

    Hurt Quail

How is the lighting? If they're getting natural light, it should be ok, but if they're on artificial light and are on a timer, maybe you should just give them enough 12 hours of light

    Quail outside

Well, once they shut down for a period of time, it may take a while for them to come back on board with the laying. As long as they are mature, are getting the proper light, avoid extremes in temperature, and are being fed a proper feed, they should lay, assuming they are otherwise healthy...
