Ooooh! she hopped! She can hop to reach her dish! Just one or two hops at a time!
(She's in a parrot cage in the house bedded with soft springy grass hay and paper towels)

Amazing! I don't have any of the other chicks with her; I am thinking I will have to try to bond her with the calmest of her siblings. Isn't it amazing how they have the capacity to care for one another?? Come to think of it, when found her hurt it was in a very large run area,-- only...

back!
I am really surprised that there are more crazy...- oops I mean--like-minded folks out there. Because I never meet them. When I first posted, my tone was a bit sharp because I honestly thought I would be verbally attacked for my decision. Really! I agree with your philosophy...
Thank you Jarsheart, It is nice to hear form someone with a silkie as we all know they are not the most athletic breed and I was wondering if this was too much for a silkie. You made my daughter happy when I read her your post before she went to school. This chick can live in the house if need...
***sniff sniff*** that video was so sweet! Thank you for that! I PROMISE to post pics when it's morning and I have some light. Thank you all for your kindness.
(Chick ate a little and is still making contented chirpy noises-- She's tough for her size that's for sure!)
Well he took off the whole leg. He assured me that the chick will be fine and in less pain in the long run this way. I don't know-- but what's done is done, so we'll see how her recovery goes. She's awake and making chirpy noises so that's a good sign.
Yep all situations are different for sure. I totally see your point that either your chickens get better or go in the stew pot--- I see that as being totally valid. Heck, I used to tell my dogs that I'll hose it off and sew it up, but they are just going to have to get better on their own! (oh...
Thanks kooltex, that helps. It seems we have similar injuries. I dropped her off at the vet and am waiting to see if he chooses rerpair or amputation (please please not amputation) I have to wait 3 more hours before I pick her up. Still not sure I did the right thing. Too late now.
Hi all, I am in the throes of a dilemma here, hoping you all will give me your opinion.
I have a 5 week old silkie chick with a badly broken leg. For a couple of days I splinted it myself, and gave injectable penicillin, and general care. The chick is perky and eats and drinks. (With help of...
I have 5 approx 2 month old Serama chicks for sale in North San Diego County. They are healthy, cute, well tamed, full of personality and make entertaining pets. 3 are female and 2 are male. They all have feathered legs! Hoping someone out there has an interest in breeding feather legged...
1. let her set for 4 weeks
2&3. put her in the barn/garage/house in a large cage, that way she won't be a sitting duck for predators esp at nighttime. The babies would then be contained when they hatch. If there are any that aren't fitting under her, I mean if there are too many eggs for her...
Amy, this has just got to be dementia. Logically, there is no way someone could one day give you loads of garden veggies, save up egg cartons, then make angry raving complaints-- she has some sort of age related mental issues. It is not you! There's nothing wrong with you! You were just being...
Are you quite positive that you aren't allowed ANY in Long Beach? You're in LA county and I know chickens are legal in LA......
My brother lives in long beach, and he has a semi-feral hen who visits him and lays her eggs under his condo's stairwell. He eats her eggs and leaves her some treats...
