Thank you both! Aart I believe I'm going to let them go the free range route in about another 2 weeks or so. They are housed in quite a large barn with a tack room and 6 other 10x10 stalls. The only predator I can think of getting in are snakes which I'm not to found of to begin with lol.
Just so you know there is nothing wrong with using play sand. Just put play sand in my coop and is working fine and dandy, love the look and the chicks love it as well.
Great inputs everyone, going the straw route because its always on hand for me and cost effective. Looks like I will be using the straw from last years Thanksgiving decorations.
Appreciate all the input everyone, much appreciated! Actually just went out to the stables and it appears I used Behr deck stain but I could have sworn it went on like paint lol, ended up putting two coats on.
Just picked up a salmon faverolles and another barred holland yesterday. Lets just say I started with two blue Cochins about two weeks ago now I have
4- Blue Cochins
3- Rhode Island Reds
2- Barred Hollands
1- Barred Rock
1- Sultan
1- Salmon Faverolles
I have the chicken bug but have...
Ok we have decided to go with a high quality deck paint for the roosting posts/Sandbox. Chose a grey color and have decided to leave the nesting boxes alone and not do anything with them since we are placing straw in the nesting boxes. Will post pictures within the next couple days for sure.
