    silkie sexing

So I did a photo shoot with my 3 Silkies to get some comparison shots of their sizes, and hopefully some good closeups for this thread. I think they are fairly young yet to be able to tell gender, but I figured that whoever wants to could have fun guessing. I got these chicks on May 1st of...

    Silkie thread!

I have a quick question about Raven. I noticed this a few weeks ago, and then today when I was supervising their play time, I caught Raven again and inspected and this is still there: It isn't raw, but its definitely a bare spot, and I'm just wondering what could be causing it. Do you...

    Silkie thread!

Jubilee has a little bit of gray barring on her wing feathers, but I don't know how much of it will stay as she gets older. This picture was taken today.

    Silkie thread!

My landlord got some Silkies from TSC, because they just labeled them "bantams," and she wanted some bantams. Come to find out they are Silkies, but they do not have the feathered legs, and one looks like that with a red comb and light colored skin.

    Silkie thread!

I'm not sure - the lady we bought them from had an assorted variety of hens and two roosters, one of which is black and one is white.

    Silkie thread!

Here's some updated pictures of the three in my brood that seem to be purebred Silkies: Pepper I think s/he is the oldest one because I can see the wattles already and the other two don't have them yet. I guess that could also mean s/he is a roo, but I think they're quite young yet to tell for...

    Silkie thread!

Awww your babies sound adorable too. Can't wait to see the pictures. :) None of mine have legs as fluffy as I would have wanted, but that's ok - I adore them anyway. They are all so cute and have their own personalities already! I took them outside today for about 10 minutes to get some...

    Silkie thread!

Just wanted to post pics of my Silkie/Silkie cross chicks. The lady we bought them from also had Polish Crested bantams, and possibly another kind of chicken, but I'm not sure? She said she was low on the purebred Silkies, so we said we were ok with crosses. We have 8 in all (bought 6 and got...

    Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth

Oh, I want in on this conversation! I have done a lot of reading, and I can't figure out if DE is good or bad, to be honest. So many people love it, and then a lot of people say it's not good etc. I hope those who have and are using it, and those who don't use it will chime in here with...

    Hi! New chicken mom here

Thank-you everyone for the welcome and great suggestions! I've updated the photo album, since we named all the chicks now. :D We are starting work on our chicken coop, even though they won't be able to go out for quite a while yet. They are definitely growing, though!
