Silkie thread!

The only silly question is the one never asked... :D

Thank you for the compliments, I love my fluffy nuggets... be careful, incubating is extremely addicting... but if you ever do, just holler... lol... ;)

Oh, I can imagine. I'm trying to figure out what I'd do with all those babies! Can't keep them all. Don't have the heart to cull because they are't the right color. Will have to find Silkie market for supplying them!

Hi all! My hen has gone broody on me. I just have a few questions.. do I have to encourage her to take breaks/take her out of the coop? I keep food for her but our waterer is outdoors because they have spilt it in the coop a few times, and the girls free range all day. I have been keeping the door closed though because there are cats around and I don't want one to get her while she's inside. Not sure what I should do

Make her go outside to eat and drink each day... and check to make sure she makes it back to the nest properly... if she is a typical hardcore Silkie broody she might run herself down to nothing and you want her to stay healthy... I've got broodys now, some go out on their own and some need encouragement, lol... :)

Be aware that if you try to make her go out for ablutions , dust bathe and food , she may just leave the nest all together .
I put one of those little half round hanging budgie feeders on the cage and fill it with water. The lack of activity and dust bathing coming into spring leaves them very vulnerable to external parasites. I always take advantage of their self imposed isolation and dust them.

We don't have roosters so she isn't sitting on any eggs (although maybe I should give her some golf balls or something so she can get out of her broodyness earlier?) so I'm not worried about her leaving the nest. I'll try buy something like you said that hangs off the side so she can't knock it over
