We got three baby chicks last March. We had them in a box on top of the dryer with a light hanging over for probably two weeks. Then we put them in a big tv box with plastic fencing around it and put them in a back corner of the den. We put pine shavings in the bottom and still had the light...
We have three ladies. I keep their feeder full all the time and they eat when they want. I give them cracked corn for a treat or for extra calories when it is cold. If we have leftover veggies, bread etc they get that. They also like a cabbage put in the metal hanging basket, keeps them busy...
Only 1/3 they were laying everyday. Now hit and miss. They are about 30 weeks. Could it be the shorter days? Anything we can do to get them going again?
Mine have not wanted to sleep on the roost. We have three and they all liked cuddling in the nest box. I have recently been putting them on the roost once it gets dark. Yours must like being close to each other. Seems like if they weren't comfortable they would move.
I bet they will start going out soon. Their systems get out of whack with change. We keep our food and water outside and they spend all day out. Maybe move yours out until the weather gets bad. Good luck!!
