    Connecticut!

Hey all- Can't stress over predation anymore, selling my small flock. I'm down in SE CT, but willing to travel for a great pet-only home. Here's the craigslist ad. http://newlondon.craigslist.org/grd/4616281025.html (am I allowed to post off-site links? I can't recall!)

    Connecticut!

Holy CRAP! I am having one heck of a case of chicken fever right now. I know this is like going to the dealer's house instead of rehab, but my friends are probably over my chicken problem! Thinking of placing an order for day-olds, even though I have tried to swear off hatcheries. I NEED AN...

    Little Rhody 2014

May 18th in Richmond, RI. Can find it on google by looking for Little Rhody Poultry Fanciers, I don't *think* I'm allowed to post a link here.

I've also been looking for POL pullets!! Found some brown leghorns at Clark Farm over in Higganum. Has anyone dealt with them? I'm looking for Brown Leghorns, Wyandotte and Welsummer!!

Are you happy with your poop board?

I think my board is somewhere between 24-30" off of the coop floor (the bedding makes it less). The roost itself is 8-10" above the poop board. A standard hen can duck and walk under the roost and they fit well under the poop board. They just jump up and down without any issues, I have never had...

There is a Connecticut thread in the Social section of BYC and a Connecticut Poultry Sale and Swap Facebook page. I know there are a few farms around the state that have some nice looking Orps!

    Little Rhody 2014

Thinking of heading over to check it out, anyone else going? Are there vendors? I'm looking for a few breeds and would love to start talking to folks that may be selling what I'm buying!

    Lice: trim feathers?

Was worried about that, but prepared for the worst and was careful. (I am now one of my own clients; the person that asks for advice but refuses to listen) Came out on top in the end though, only "had to" take a few and they were all very mature and dry. If anything, I'll sleep better :)...

    Lice: trim feathers?

Possibly a very stupid question, but I found bug/eggs on a bird today! After the initial skeeve factor ended, I got to thinking, could I trim the shafts that contain the eggs? This would reduce the soon-to-be-hatched load. Within reason, of course. Otherwise, it's Sevin/DE/already administered...

    Connecticut!

So, this is either a horrible idea or a great one, I can't tell yet. My coop is a slant-roof design with an eave of sorts (somewhat of a wind/weather buffer) hanging about a foot past a coop-long, hardware clothed air vent. I am worried about the gusting winds and negative temps we are supposed...

    Connecticut!

UGH! WINTER! I hope everyone is battened down and buttoned up tight! Of all the winter weather, I absolutely abhor the "wintery mix" forecast! Fed some scratch and warm oatmeal tonight, a little pre-apology. I'm not excited to be glared/cussed at tomorrow when I open the coop and those girls...

    Connecticut!

It has been a "back-burner" interest for a long time. We decided to scale our garden back this year, so my seed starting will be less worrisome, and I don't *plan* on running a brooder, so I want a new project for winter!

    Connecticut!

TOTALLY off topic, but I figured I'd throw it out there anyway- does anyone do any vermicomposting? I am looking to purchase some worms and would rather buy local if possible. :)
