I throw everything in the run, they eat what they want and leave what they don't want. It all gets scratched or pooped into a very nice compost mix. I've done this for years and since we don't eat eggs, or chickens, I know that our chickens have survived long past their typical "usefulness" on...

My Silkie bantam's roost... All the way at the top. They have an easy access to the top and they like it there. It took a few weeks of teaching them that thats a good place to stay at night but they finally got it. I have to say though, having silkies vs. other chicken breeds that they are not...

Same predator got my "mamma" . I put a fence up around the coop and put my pit bull in with the chickens. Bring it on Mr Fox or Coyote.... Sally seems to like hanging out with the chickens. And the occasional "Scooby Snack" Is a bonus for her too. Well all the babies are growing great...
