    2 suddenly dead chickens---help!!

I haven't bought any grit. I have given them shallow dishes of dirt with small stones (grit) in it, and mixed in some playsand. They gobbled it up. I haven't beeen giving it daily, though, about once a week. Should I leave a pan in their pen at all times?

    2 suddenly dead chickens---help!!

I meant to ask in the last post, is there any kind of broad spectrum treatment I could give them that might take care of possible pathogen causes? Thanks again:)

    2 suddenly dead chickens---help!!

I don't think anything could have gotten into their feed. We don't really have any poisonous chemicals stored near it at all, I've been feeding it to them for about 2 weeks. It's almost gone, so as a precaution I will junk it and start a new bad. They chest bump a little during the day and I...

    2 suddenly dead chickens---help!!

It's pretty cool right now, down to the high sixties at night. Their coop is 16 by 4, and has 4 big screen windows down the front and 2 on each end, only the back is closed up. The roof overhangs so rain can't get in. This has happened overnight or in the early morning both times. I feed...

    2 suddenly dead chickens---help!!

Hello! I am hoping somebody with more experience than me can help. Three days ago, when I went out in the morning to feed my 6 week old Delaware roosters, one of them was laying on his side dead. They had all seemed fine the night before around midnight when I checked on them before bed. Now...

poor pecked chick needs help--what do I do?

Thanks for the quick replies everybody:) I think sectioning off part of the coop for him is a great idea! I am going to get another heat lamp tomorrow, since our nights are chilly, and he can have his own little penthouse suite while his brothers the bullies get stuck sharing the rest of the...

poor pecked chick needs help--what do I do?

Hi, I hope you can help a newbie chicken mama figure out what to do with an injured chick. I am raising a flock of Delawares (all roos) for meat, they just turned 3 weeks old. Last week, I went out to feed them and one of them had been pecked so badly on his foot that his middle toe was all...

    Delawares for meat

Thanks for sharing your info and the pictures...they look like happy, healthy little guys. Right now ours are out in their coop, we're working on getting their fence put up this weekend so they can get outside and burn off some of their energy. Since they can't get outside yet, I've been...

    Delawares for meat

Hubby and I bought 29 Delawares to raise for meat 2 1/2 weeks ago. So far, they seem like happy little things, eating like piglets (24% protein ration) and looking like pincushions with sprouting feathers everywhere, but since I've never raised chickens before, I don't have a good idea of what...
