They stopped laying, what is going on??

hey all, thanks for this info. My situation is similar...my Black Sex Link (same age as all the other pullets) hasn't laid in a couple of weeks. She just suddenly stopped, all the others are still laying and acting normal (except our banty who went broody for a while). She does not act sick...

    Broody banty, what to do?

Our banty just started getting broody, she's a little over 5 mos. old and is tending to her golf ball night and day. We have no roosters so she'll never get anywhere with it...I'm just wondering if it's best to take her off the nest when this happens or let her work through it. Any...

    Anyone have a wolf hybrid?

I have to agree with the others that wolf-hybrids are unpredictable! They are beautiful animals, however, but I would stear clear of them for a different reason. We live in Montana where there are still wild wolves, and I feel they should remain that way. Many people out here have tried...

10 week Olds taken to sleeping in nest box

I'm having the same problem, only mine have recently started laying. All five hens will cram into our two nest boxes! Last night I blocked off the nest boxes and somehow our RIR got in and layed an egg before we opened up the nest boxes. Obviously she needed to get in. I'm wondering if we...

    Why do combs flop?

I'm sure there is some connection to the breed thing, but my friends hens with the floppy combs are a RIR and Barred Rock, and I also have one of each of those breeds and my girls don't have a flop to theirs, only slight "wave" on one of them. I was initially alarmed, hers are a little older...

    Why do combs flop?

Hi everyone, wondering if anyone knows why combs flop? Is there something missing in a chickens diet whose comb won't stand up? At first I only saw it in pics of cramped caged chikens, but my friends chickens who are happy healthy backyard birds have started to have floppy combs. Any...

    new layers

Thanks, so was it your experience that sometimes they lay a nice sound egg the first time?

    new layers

Congrats to all of you first eggers! We've just begun reaping the egg benefits too. Our RIR was the first to lay, early, at 17 weeks. Now just 2 wks later, our Golden Sexy layed her first today. I was expecting to have the practice round like our RIR had, but this egg is beautiful -hard...

Our first eggs and update on flock

your mostly black hens with the brown chests and necks look like black sex-links to me. That's exactly what ours looks like.

Which breed do you think is most affectionate?

We have a golden and black sex-link and they are way friendlier than the RIR, Barred Rock, or Buff Cochin Bantam. They both are easy to catch and seem to like hanging out near us, plus, don't have to worry about surprise roos with sex-links.

    Questions from a first-timer

Well, our hunch was right and all of your thoughts too! Our girl laid her first egg last night and another one tonight. The first one was weak and very small, and the second one was more normal size but the shell was nearly non-existant. Here's some photos if anyone's interested...I'm not...

    Bantam behavior

We have a banty Buff Cochin, she's really good natured and does fine with the standards. She's had to learn to assert herself with being vertically challenged and all, but gets along just fine! Good luck to you.
