    Little Miss Hop-a-long

I had a hen who was limping and did as suggested above. I washed and could see no issue with the foot. I suspected she jumped off of something and landed wrong. I kept her separate for about 4-5 days, then let her with the others. She has gotten better over 2 weeks is my guess and now uses the...

    neck "adjusting" behavior

Hi everyone, I have a Jersey Giant who is doing some weird neck behavior. She is not a very active chicken, but I wouldn't say she is lethargic. Sometimes she does this and other times not. Also, she is often standing off by herself. Does anyone have any thoughts? Is it neurological, disease...

    Crop Illness

So sorry about your chicken :( I had a Light Brahma die from something wrong with her crop. Had her at the vet's and they flushed her crop, but it didn't help, she had stopped eating and just didn't recover.

    Easter Egger Thread!

My introduction to Easter Eggers: I've had chickens since 2010. We added 5 chicks last summer and my daughter picked them out. the farm where we got them had batches of 50 chicks and my daughter noticed one that was unusual, so of course wanted her. We asked what type it was and they didn't know...

My coop / run so far :)

oh, you're doing it right! we always get chicks and then scramble to figure out how to make room for them. Don't think I'd have chickens otherwise. 10 years ago my husband and daughter came home with a cardboard box with 4 chicks. Next day we went back and got too more! addicted now :) Best of...

My coop / run so far :)

Looks great! I agree about the wood needing paint. after about 5 years of being in the weather, our little coop with particle board started getting soft and raccoons dug a big hole in the roof. We put on a new roof and covered it with hardware cloth to just be sure nothing would dig it up again...

    Coop and Run

Hi all, I just want to share our coop stories and pictures of our current coop and run. We like the idea of things being moveable, so our first coop was supposed to be a tractor that we could move around. It didn't end up moving very well, I think it was heavy and the wheels were too small. We...

    heavy breathing

So sorry Wendy didn't make it. We had a 8-9 month old chicken who began panting and also sort of coughing. took her to the vet and it was determined that she had a fungal (aspergilosis) infection in her trachea. She did not survive, poor sweetie.

    introducing...

I live in MA and I've had chickens since 2010. started with 5, got 2 more and then over the years lost some to various issues. Last summer we added 5 more, one, we thought was an "exotic" and turned out to be an Easter Egger Roo. A couple of months ago, lost 2 of the newer chickens - we were...

    predator proofing our run

I am running some hardware cloth around the outer edge of the run with an apron. and I need some advice. the hardware cloth I have is only 3 ft wide, so I made a 15 inch apron for the ground and the rest will run up the side of the 6ft fencing. What is the best way to attach the upper part of...
