Our hen (Sparra) molted a month or so ago. A few days ago, she started holding her tail down. She seems mostly normal otherwise and doesn't want to be picked up (also normal for her).
Seen some posts about being possibly egg bound, but I don't think she's currently in laying condition. All our...
I'm not sure. I forgot to check it yesterday, but it had water on Friday, I think.
Regardless, Penny is able to escape the side run and go over to our pond, which she did yesterday. So I think she drank on Saturday even if the tank was empty. It IS possible she hurt herself doing so, as her...
Our Easter Egger (Penny) was suddenly lethargic today. She was still on the roost at 12pm and I had to lift her down.
Their water was empty, which I refilled, and our other four birds happily drank, but Penny kind of ignored it, even after I wet her beak.
I gave her some water from an...
I think better. My local chicken supply store said to keep an eye on her and watch. She's still not flying like normal, but she is doing all the other normal chicken things. I put a milk crate in the coop so it'd be easier to get on the roost.
Our easter egger (Penny) is still a pullet and normally a pretty strong flier. (We have found her on our house roof.) She also routinely flies onto my arm.
But yesterday and today, I saw her trying to hop onto objects about 2 feet off the ground and missing. She also struggled to get onto the...
Here are some Penny pics from a couple days ago. The good news is, she did not find the roof particularly interesting and came back down quickly.
These aren't the best pictures of her saddle feathers. But they are very blunt. She has the shortest tail of all our chickens. She also has almost no...
We haven't lost any to predators (knock on wood), but a hawk had a near miss on one of our girls about a month ago. My wife managed to throw off its descent enough to save the day!
So, we have three (hopefully) pullets who will be 3 months old on the 6th. (Hatched April 6th) They are:
- Penny, easter egger
- Gabby, silver-laced wyandotte
- Freckles, speckled sussex
Gabby also likes to sit on my arm.
I didn't get a good one of Penny tonight, as she went to bed early...
Yes to both questions. But I'd feel pretty bad keeping the chicks in there 24/7. It's a bit cramped for all day, and they're used to going outside every day. (We've been letting them out daily since they were about 2 weeks old in this cool chicken tent thing we bought for them.)
As previously...
Hello!
So our little chicks (Freckles, Gabby, and Penny) are six weeks old now, out-grown their tub in our living room, and we're working on moving them to the outside coop. We've been doing slow yard introductions (at a distance, at first), and then moved up to all our birds in the yard at...
Sorry, LONG time on responding to this! That was Slush, he was a barnyard mix. He also turned out to be a rooster (as did both of our chicks!), which was sad, because he was a really friendly one, but we're not allowed to have them in the city. We did find him a new home out in the county.
Black Silver Laced Wyandotte (Gabby). She doesn't like it when her hatchmates take naps, and wakes up the whole house until they come back out.
Easter Egger (as yet unnamed) and Calico Shorthair (Scamp) watching in the background
Both photos taken yesterday! We also have a Speckled Sussex...
