at least some of us do things in the right order - we just finished ours - still have to do the run - and my girls are almost 12 weeks old - it was starting to get real "earthy" around the house with all of us under one roof! at least you guys put the coop before the chickens.

oh and the pics of the coop are not the final color - being the hippie/redneck hybrid i am - the outside of the coop is soon to be ......purple:) with all the essential artwork (well dh knew what he was getting into when he married me and the looks of amused shock and disbelief i get are...

    keeping water in brooder clean

i feel your pain - i felt like all i did was change out mucky water - thats if they didnt tip over the bottle in which case i then had to change wet bedding. i tried the wood, stone, raising the height and finally what worked for me - after they were several weeks old was to put the water...

    Gross and Evil or Efficient?

my dh always gives our cockatoo a chicken wing when he eats them and she loves them - she carries on something awful if she sees you eating them and you dont give her any - he always laughs and mutters cannibal under his breath when he gives her the chicken wing. i remember learning in a...

Meat fed...not good for the garden?

this has been bugging me too - i dont get it - dog feces is "never" to be composted but chicken manure can - both eat meat - or is it because meat is a major part of a dogs diet - and only part of a chickens diet. the area that my dogs use to poop is away from where i grow our food and away...

digitS, thanks for the comfrey info - of course it was the first green thing to pop up in my veggie beds - i grow it as a green manure - but i was planning to chuck some to the chickens when they were a little older - scratch that - pun intended why take a chance when there is so much other...

when does adult breed specific color happen

actually i was posting #2 as the silver laced wyandotte that i had ordered (at least thats what i thought she was). my light brahmas look very different than #2 - they have alot of solid white on the body and black/gray around the hackles - my dh said they looked like ospreys when they were...

when does adult breed specific color happen

i feel better now i cant tell you how puzzled i was when the lady i spoke with on the phone told me the light chicks were my pullets as they morphed into big white birds with the most ginourmous combs (which i think are so neat) they are going to be 7wks on wednesday. the coop will be done...
