Thank you for the reply! Sadly she didn't make it. I gave her some electrolytes and then made the kids some lunch. Checked on her about an hour and 15 min later and she wasn't breathing .
I have a 21 week old hen with what I think is wry neck. I got a different food the last time I bought it and I think it was lacking in vitamins. She is going down hill fast. I found her yesterday with the classic twisted neck. She's not eating or drinking so I have been giving her vitamin E...
I attached hardware cloth to the outside of my coop and run. Then I bent it out and buried about a foot of it. That way anything that digs runs into the cloth.
Thank you both!! I really wouldn't care as long as he would protect them. I had a huge snake come around when I was working on the coop and they were all free ranging. The roo shooed his girls away and left the others. Lol! Luckily I grabbed it before it got one.
These are all my chickens. I had the bigger ones(EE and black sex) first then about two weeks later I got the younger four (bantams)that are int he corner. They have been together in the big coop for about a month now. They still act as two separate groups. The rooster doesn't want anything to...
The older ones will be 11 weeks tomorrow. I'm not sure at what age I should stop calling them chicks and advance them to chickens. LOL! Thank you Flock Master for the info. I hope kind of hope it was just a coincidence and it was just genetic. I'm just a huge animal lover and take it personally...
Thanks for the reply!! I have an old large wire dog crate for the smaller chicks to run into if they need. Their food and water is in there too. Is that sufficient or should I completely close off an area of the coop for them? The larger chicks can't get in through the slots at all.
This is what I used to build mine. http://www.mybackyardplans.com/gablestorageshed.php Like you I have ZERO building experience. This was fairly easy for me and I did myself it in about a week.
Has anyone had a chick die from stress during a storm? I have 5 barred rock bantam chicks around 7 weeks and 4 older hens and a rooster around 11 weeks. They were all fine when I closed up the coop last night. When I went out to check on them this morning one of the younger ones was dead. We...
It rains all the time here in the spring. I use coarse builder's sand. It dries up really fast. I put a small piece of hardware mesh attached to a pitch fork and use it like a big litter scoop. It works really well and makes clean up really fast.
