This is an excellent consideration. I should have mentioned that in an earlier post, but disturbances at night can cause unformed eggs to be forced out. Disturbances can include loud noise nearby, predators trying to get in and even rats. Anything basically that can make them nervous...
I will try to answer your questions :
1) Yes they are eating the oyster shell, they love it
2) They are outside all day so vit D should not be the issue
3) Stress, I don't think so, nothing has changed for 3 wks
4) Nothing bothering them at night that I know of
5) I have not seen any of them...
I would tend to agree with you however it used to be just one egg like this a couple of weeks ago, now this morning there was 4 of them on the roost that looked like this, the pic is of the only one that was not broken...
So out of 5 laying hens I only got one "normal" egg yesterday and...
yes my chickens have free choice oyster shells and they are outside from 6:30am- 7:30pm, free to do what they wish.

Well the two Roos do get along great and that's probably cause they were raised together. The brown Roo is definately the boss. He roosts up at night with the ladies...the BR roo sleeps down under the poop board....lol
The brown rooster matured much faster than the BR did so hopefully...
Man it just breaks my heart because I love the two roosters the most.... they were sold to me as "straight run" I could keep them but I have been told that once hormones kick in they will fight because there are only 4 hens with them????
I also have 4 white leghorn pullets... and they...
This BR is really confusing me. I need to know if it's a pullet or roo before I give it away.... cause if it's a pullet I am going to keep her....
I have thought it was a pullet for the past few months but the other morning I heard and saw her do the "start" of a cockadoodledoo..... but...
