Hey there, I have a 22 week old BLRW that turned out to be a cockerel. We got four chicks straight run, and the other three ended up pullets. So......this looks like a roo. He's a big boy, saddle feathers, bigger waddles and comb than the girls obviously. He's even starting to try and show...
Hey everyone, not sure if you remember me, but after some concerns over gender, my chicks are now about 17 weeks old, and I have 3 pullets and a roo. Pikachu is so far a really perfect boy. He's not afraid to come up to get a treat when I offer it, but also seems to know his place with me too...
I'm with donrae I think, at least for sure on the first one. The second one I think a clearer picture would help, but am leaning towards cockerel too. Also agree with Splash- I have four 8 week olds, and two are Pale Blue/Splash type, they look a lot like these.
Well, there are a few ways to tell. First off, what breed are they?
Depending on the breed, some are far easier to gender-identify than others.
Also, pictures of your chickens will help us all out a lot, so someone here maybe can help you!
In many breeds, the tail feathers and...
I hope so! Thank you all so much for helping! :)
If I have 3 pullets and a cockerel, I will be so excited. I know it was luck because 2-3 day old chicks would be near impossible to tell, but it will also give me bragging rights since these were straight run.
Hello there. Here is one of my 8 week old today Blue Laced Red Wynadottes, Misty. At first, we were sure this was going to turn out a cockerel. I know/am pretty sure our Pikachu is a boy. ( My kids named them, yes they are huge Pokemon fans!).
Misty started off a little bolder than the...
Hey there. These chicks are about 5 weeks old now, and I'm on the fence about these two Blue Laced Red Wynadottes.
I can take more pictures, but I know this breed is one of the trickier to sex until they are closer to juvenile age. Let me know what you all think please! The Splash ( I...
So sad, but it can happen for no apparent reason. I've read that chickens can have strokes or heart attacks with little warning. I found one of my one year old RI Red's, Barbie Q when she was about a year old laying in the grass as if she was sleeping, but she didn't come when I called. She...
The first two pictures are of Misty and Pikachu. I'm thinking I should paint the coop blue for these two, what do you all think?
This third picture is of what happened when I tried to put them outside in a pen I put up. They freaked out and tried to run through the fence- until I got in...
I am following this thread closely. I have 4 - 4 week old BLRW chicks I bought straight run from an awesome local breeder. I have suspicion that at least one, and possibly two are roos. If we end up with any, I am going to try keeping one at least. The breeders roos were really nice, and...
