My coop has only cost me the $45 I spent on 5 gallons of paint for it. I gave my brother my old hot tub and in exchange, he bought me a used fireworks stand and converted it to a coop for me. It's 8' x 32' and 8' high. It's divided into 4 rooms, each 8' x 8'. One room is set up as a brooder room...
How many chicks altogether? And how many feeders & waterers do you have for them? I've had trampling happen when there weren't enough waterers or enough space at the feeders for everyone at once.
How old is the chick? I ask because the two things that come to mind when you say 'lumpy feet' are leg mites and bumblefoot. But neither of those should show up in a very young bird, because both take several weeks to make the feet lumpy. Are the lumps discolored? Like red or ? A nice big...
I'm thinking she is showing dominance to the other hen. Broodies usually do their puffer fish imitation while on the nest and not "strutting around". Most broodies I've picked off the nest and put on the ground just fall over and lay there for a minute before trying to get back into the nest.
I have ONE nest box and it's outside the coop. The number of chickens varies, from 2-50, but they all use this one nest box. I've provided more and different boxes, but they never got used. My nest box is about 2' x 4' and can hold quite a few hens at once. It's an old barrel from a huge compost...
Our hatch seems to be done. We have 8 Barnie Babies in the brooder! I tried taking pics but they just won't stand still long enough. I'll try again tomorrow.
Trisha is sending me another batch on Monday, making some of those eggs laid on Easter Sunday. I like that a lot. Talk about hatching...

If you lay an egg with a detached air cell on it's side (or lean it over on it's side, like in some turners) the air cell moves to the side of the egg instead of the fat end where it's supposed to be. Then when the chick tries to hatch, it can't find the air and drowns.
We have 7 chicks hatched now! 1 KC, 1 Cornevelder and 5 vB/Johan. Still more pipping, and the window guy is just sittin there watching everyone else hop around.
Just woke up to four babies!
Lots more pips and one with a lil window he made to look out of. The first four are lively and hoppin and peepin, so stinkin cute! Both KC eggs have good pips, at least one of the Cornevelders is moving (maybe both, they're touching each other so it's hard to...
Our eggs are in lockdown now. I candled and it looked to me like all 18 eggs are still good. One or two are a little bit iffy, but there's no smell or anything so I kept them all in. I'm kinda excited so I took photos. here's one:
I used strawberry baskets to separate the different lines so I'd...
