Noticed new chick bought just today to keep my other 2 company seemed to loll around over much, then saw a bump on back spur area. Taking her in hand the feet are not quite right - blobs here and there that look like they could be soil but didn't clean of with olive oil or vaseline. I think they are growths. These are the first chicks we have ever had, although I bought my 3 pullets the end of last Sept. Sadly, we never even considered checking her little feet. She was in feed store with many mixed breeds, had been there since the Sat. preceding Easter. Bottom line is it infectious to other chicks?

Is there any way you can post a pic of her feet? Are the lumps off center and asymmetrical or is it possible she's just got boney joints?

How old is the chick? I ask because the two things that come to mind when you say 'lumpy feet' are leg mites and bumblefoot. But neither of those should show up in a very young bird, because both take several weeks to make the feet lumpy. Are the lumps discolored? Like red or ? A nice big close-up photo would help.

Thanks so very much for replies - sorry can't do pics - these are more like moles on the bottom of the feet or at end of 2 toes where claws should be. But now that you ask, the joints are boney and that where some of the tiny bumps are. The one on the back claw, instead of a toe she has a round lump. She can stand, run, but prefers resting on her chest. These growths or clumps seem abnormal but are not inflamed, just tawny brown color on pinkish feet. I hate picking her up to examin her after all she has been thru today. She is 2 to 3 weeks old. So much goodness comes from the answers and suggestions offered on this forum. While you all give answers and suggestions to one inquiry you are teaching the rest of us. Time and again these threads have mentored me thru new concerns. Do you think it could be contagious?

They can get it, but I bought a hen once that had legs that looked like concrete. I just kept her greased up a few days and scraped off the dead yuck. No one else got it, but they can yes.

You said it perfectly, it does look like concrete blobs or pebbles! It didn't seem to hurt her when I tried rubbing them with a cloth drenched w olive oil, nor when I put the vaseline on - it was all I could think of at the time.
would neosporine be better?

It would work, but unless there are cuts it's cheaper to use vaseline. You only need to sufficate them and scrape them off otherwise.
