I am having trouble understanding how the evaporation paper fits into the water pot. Does anyone have a photo they can post or explain to me how they fit the paper in?
Maybe I'm having an off day but I'm just not understanding the instructions that say to fold it over the water pot rib and...
Do not purchase eggs from a place in Calimesa CA calling themselves "Robin's Eggs". They are using my photo to sell their eggs on CL, eBay and possibly here.
My experience in hatching EE's and 1/2 Copper Maran's is that in January I hatched 12 eggs under a broody and 9 were female. In April I got 5/5 males. Could temp have anything to do with it...like in turtles?
I purchased some CL eggs on eBay several months ago. They arrived filthy and I had that "I've been screwed" feeling from the beginning. Two hatched. One is a CL (male, of course) the other appears to be a sex-link (male, too) so I'm guessing a black roo in with the CL hens (he hatched from a...
I have emailed and never received an answer. My "Red Star" lays a nice size egg on a regular basis but the Cal-Maine Farmhouse Eggs are a darker speckled brown and very pretty and large. They actually remind me of Welsummer eggs, but they are not prolific producers. These eggs are carried by...
I am beyond excited because today...I found a SPECKLED dark olive egg in the nest box!!!! Saving those light olive speckled eggs for hatching is paying off!!

I got my first dark olive egg from the birds I hatched in February. The only problem is the egg was on the floor of the coop so I'm not sure who laid it! It's like Christmas! haha!!
I have a Welsummer/EE cross rooster. Father is welly, mother is EE.
The roo has beautiful feathering (I think), a nice carriage (I think) and a ugly comb. He also has a beard.
If I wanted to breed to keep the feathering but toward a pea comb how would I breed him?
I still have both of...
These are photos of the chicks at just a few days old; they only hatched this past weekend. There were no females so no chipmunks.
Thank you all for the confirmation that the black chick is NOT a CL or a "throwback".
I believe he is a sex-link, too. I don't own a barred hen so I KNOW he...
