Okay.... I returned the roosters today. Birchen marans. I didn't know she had them. She was pretty happy to have the splash back. At any rate, I know what they are, I have a hen that will lay eventually, and I've added to the flock for more eggs. hatching is mighty fun. I'd do it non stop...

I saw this post earlier, and now my wife just happened to stop by my office with "Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute: current research 2009-2009" and I was reading it because of the quail on the cover and got to page 24 where there is a picture of a black cat that looks like a panther...

As for the waterer. i used a gatorade bottle for one and a bucket for a second. For the bottle, I had to drill a hole at the top (bottom of bottle but top when inverted) to relieve the negative pressure from the water leaving but no air coming back into the bottle. I didn't use tape or sealant...

just the colors... I'm in San Antonio and it is apparently UTSA's colors too, but I didn't know that when I chose the colors. By the way Cupman, your construction looks great! For something more subtle, I had also considered blue and grey.

I suppose I will send pics or stop back by. She said she'd take the roosters back. They definitely hatched out of marans eggs. Nice dark brown with some speckles. Even the bird that hatched white came from a wonderful dark brown egg. She also has SL wyandottes, BLR wyandottes, Olive eggers...

These are 6.5 wks old. Black copper marans excepting the white one which hatched from a marans egg. The lady I got them from also dabbles in olive eggers so I'm guessing this is a 1st generation OE. I also have a wheaten ameraucana that is a roo too so from my hatch, I think I have 4 out of 5...

One of my americauna's pipped this AM and is chirping in its shell! If it goes well, it'll be my first incubation and my first ever chicken. Very excited!

My wife and I had been debating chickens for over 7 yrs. We're finally settled and wanted to raise from eggs. Last Sunday the 25th, we put the following in a LG incubator 4 black copper marans, 4 wheaton ameraucanas, 2 blue laced red wyandottes, and 2 olive eggers. I plan to candle tomorrow...
