I thought it might be interesting to see everyones new turkey flocks whether they are a day old or six weeks old.
I keep turkeys and chickens as pets on our 70 acre farm. I do eat their eggs.
I have adult bourbon reds that I have had for a year but I just got 3 blue...

Raising poults is not hard at all really imo
there are 3 things you have to do in order to be successful: I have raised 3 flocks about 30 birds and I have only had three not make it past the 2nd week.
1. you have to keep them warm for the first 3 weeks ( a heat lamp works best) between 88-95...
if he turkey's wing has a laceration put some iodine for farm animals on the wing to reduce any risk of infection. I would recommend to put her up in a stall or enclosure for safety. when she becomes more active then I would say let her out and let it do its thing. feed it yard feed and...
hey there
yeah they fight in order to sustain a pecking order but it usually doesnt last too long. they will become friends and will fight again if seperated even for a day. the wild turkeys keep my bourbon reds in check about every day.
The caring for turkeys does not really differ that much from chickens in my experience. They need to be wormed monthly (I use Wazine17) when young they need a high protein feed. 28-30% protein. Turkeys dont like the rain much either. It is and can be very hard on turkeys.

I have 8 turkeys and they are pets. They have a lot more personality than you would imagine.
I got my poults in the spring at the local feed store. Most feed stroes that carry chicks, ducks will carry turkeys if requested.
