    Breeding to multiple Roos

I’ve kept chickens for years...my kids and I are trying our hand at selective breeding for the first time this spring. I have 3 different Roos (AMER, BCM and Blue Aus) and want to breed my hens between them. I will have all 3 Roos separated out into different pens and put the hens in with them...

    EE x EE

My friend has 3 OE’s that go broody all the time. They’re all sisters so I think it must run in that line. I rely on my Cochin for broodiness, but I had a buff Orpington that would go broody pretty regularly a while back.

    EE x EE

Yeah, I know EE’s are mutts, I’m just curious if they will keep the beard and ear muffs. I love my pure Ameraucanas because they are gorgeously predictable in breeding. And I love my mutt Easter eggers but haven’t tried breeding them together yet. It sounds like they usually pass down the...

    EE x EE

I just found this thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/breeding-easter-eggers-with-easter-eggers.1117547/ Helps me out a bit with my question!

    EE x EE

You think so?? I agree on the comb for sure but I feel like there is a lot of orange in the wings and some saddle feathers as well. Also, the black “lacing” is very irregular. I’m happy to be wrong, but the feathers are telling me roo! Of course, it’s not over til they crow or lay an egg. :) PS...

    EE x EE

I know EE’s don’t breed true. So what happens when you do breed an EE roo w/ EE hen? My 9 week old EE “pullet” is looking very roo-ish. He is such a sweetheart so I’m thinking about keeping him around for a bit until I can get an Ameraucana roo. Has anyone experimented? I’m curious if the chicks...

    Welsummer??...I think not

Oh, yes! That Barnevelder in the background is very proud to be mis-sexed. Doesn’t he look smug? 🤣 I hoped for 1-2 Roos so no biggy.

    Welsummer??...I think not

I’m pretty sure y’all are right. I think she must have been mixed in with the welsummers. No complaints here! I’ll take a photo when she’s all feathered out. ;)

    Welsummer??...I think not

This 4 week old “welsummer” has been feathering out VERY dark. I got her from a hatchery and she looked pretty normal as a fluffy chick, but now I’m thinking she has to be mixed with something. Thoughts? The 2nd photo shows a “real” welsummer on the left.

    Here I am

Hey, fellow chicken nuts! I’ve had chickens off and on since I was a little girl growing up in the suburbs of AZ. My family and I have been living in north ID for a few years and just bought 5 acres last summer. I’m rebuilding our flock and have lots of different flavors. Eggers, Marans...
