    Show me your best BLRW's!

Yemimah, I will take a look at the Meyer Hatchery. I believe I saw a video in the past of their flock of Black laced reds and they did have really dark coloring. I would be very excited if I got a few of them and they did give me the 100% blue when bred to the splash I have!

    Show me your best BLRW's!

Thank you for the reply! I haven't found anyone local with better looking Wyandottes so I don't have a good example to compare to. These three are the best I have seen with my own 2 eyes so I am starting to think everyone around Mass only has splash or a bad experiment they are trying to pass...

    Show me your best BLRW's!

The new trio is here! I am going to search out Black laced red's to try and get some deeper colors. Maybe a slightly larger angle in the saddle if possible to find.

    Show me your best BLRW's!

I have decided that Wyandottes are the breed for me. I like their history, their looks, and the temperament of the ones I have had on my "urban hobby homestead"(If that is a real thing) is great. The roo's are protective and hold down the fort well, the hens are less eager to be fully...

    BLRW question.

I have found some BLRW's in my area from an individual who can't keep roosters. I really did get an Incredible deal for 3 healthy birds! Two are hens and one is a roo (confirmed). I spoke with him and told him he was crazy to not ask for more and I was willing to pay more. He said no and I made...

    BLRW question.

The Colombian in the back of the last picture is the one in question. The comb is very large and also the bump on the leg.(I'll get that picture tomorrow). I do think it is a hen but got all flustered when all the pullet blrw's I hoped for turned out to not be hens nor nice blrw's.

    BLRW question.

There was another roo that had better blue color but he was MASSIVE and attacked me (which I didn't quite mind because I have had predators in the past) but since he was aggressive and had a lot of meat to offer he ended up in the freezer. I was a little unhappy when I saw that these two had the...

    BLRW question.

Thanks for the info! Is it safe to assume that regardless of variation of Wyandotte they should have similar combs, waddles, and body shape? Can hen's have a bump on their leg where the roo's grow spurs? I spent some extra time my birds today and a Colombian rock of mine has a bump where I...

First harvest, question concerning the crop.

Also, the pus did not smell.

First harvest, question concerning the crop.

I did take a few pictures and will upload tonight if I can. It is definitely hard to describe. The hard part was a ring that is possibly 1/8" in thickness from inner to outer wall. The diameter was maybe 1/2". Trying to find an example online is impossible. I looked through all known diseases...

    BLRW question.

Pictures aren't great but the best I could get for now. If I can get an extra set of hands I can hold them to get better pictures. I am hoping there are a few BLRW experts around that can tell from the supplied photographs.

    BLRW question.

To start, with the bird in question, there is no crowing or attempts at sex while I am spending time in their pen. However, I have seen a few leg kicks and plucking of a feather here and there. I am not sure if that is a trait of only roo's or if hen's use that in their little battle for thier...

    Freddie the wannabe homesteader!

I tend live a crazy life at every given moment. I typically get 1 day a week to actually spend at my home and do things that I want to do. (Spend time with the dog, chickens and rabbits, or re build broken down motorcycles from the 70's.) The rest is either full time work, then add on full time...

First harvest, question concerning the crop.

I did too! I have had a few chickens for a couple years but I started with a batch of babies this year. Their crops were MASSIVE they kept eating so much. I assume that is a survival instinct, stock up while you can! My worry was that there were no rocks just pus in the sack. Should I go get...
