Ok now that it is too dark to see the live web cam, I've added a video clip to the page below the web cam stream box. It is a smaller box but if you click on it you can expand it to full screen. Oh, I even captured myself collecting eggs
anyway, here is the new link
live duck cam page
I'm not sure if this link will be welcome here but I hop so. I just set up a web cam to test out my skills at such things and some of the folks over on the Aquaponic Gardening site thought it rather fun so I thought perhaps people really into birds might appreciate it even more.

Anyway...
I use cheap plastic fencing, netting, shade cloth, whatever to create "paddocks" for my chickens to range around in. That way I can kinda keep them from going where I don't want them. I don't think the neighbors would appreciate them in their yards much and I don't want anyone complaining...
I just got some Muscovys and am wondering about clipping. I think I'll have to if I'm not going to keep them in a completely covered run. We are in suburbs and so far the predators have not found our place (we already have chickens.) Anyway, once the muscovys settle in and get used to us and...
The consumeristic belief that all store bought stuff is "safer" and "better" than home made/home grown stuff is what we are banging out heads against.
For some decades now advertising and commercial agriculture have been trying to separate the "normal" people from those who produce the food...
This is a real bummer. We added to our flock not too long ago because of the 4 we already had, only one was laying. 5 eggs a week didn't cut it. So we now have 12. It took a few weeks but the new additions have started laying now. Unfortunately, several of them will announce very loudly for...
My understanding is that you are not supposed to wash the eggs because it destroys a protective coating on the egg making it vulnerable to bacteria getting into it and causing it to spoil much faster. So if there is any tracked about mud, dirt or poo on the eggs, just wipe them off before...
Hopefully someone with some more experience can help you more but here is what we are planning to do at least for our first few chickens.
There is a market near here (kinda a flea market) on the weekends and there are some people there who sell chickens and some other farm animals. This will...
I guessing that most of the really friendly chickens were probably raised with love from eggs by their current owners, am I right?
We are going to be getting some already grown chickens (4 female) probably RIRs for eggs. Provided they were never abused, how friendly or easy to handle can I...
That link to the chart is very useful!
Even more likely to get the Rhode Island Red Hens now, (listed as productive of large brown eggs as well as being hardy in heat and friendly.)
Anyone know much about the egg laying productiveness of any of the sex linked hens? I know the people at the...
I am also interested in learning a little more about the different breeds.
There is a farm that sells chickens at a local market so we will be getting something from there but they do have several different breeds.
Sounds like we will probably get a couple RIRs and a couple of some other type...
Upon reading through this thread, It looks like general treats should wait till chicks are a few weeks old but live culture yogurt can be offered right away to young chicks.
