Hello all, I recently revived and rebuilt an older marsh roll x incubator of my fathers and it has been up and running for about 3 days now. The problem is that the eggs we have in there are of considerably different sizes and even though we picked the grid that accommodates the greatest number...
I am ordering in a bunch of whole grain mix for my birds and will leave it in whole grain form to preserve the nutritional quality while in bulk storage. I will ferment and feed a small amount in the morning and evening then fresh grind weekly to provide their free choice ground...
I am working on a couple of whole grain mixes for my chickens and a few of them have a large percentage of peas in order to achieve the protein levels that I want. I will grind some but will also feed a fair amount of whole grain fermented form morning and night. Question is...how well do the...
Yeah, start building with 10000...though about 1000 would be fed to some of our new chicks over the next short while. I called about 6 places yesterday and will go with Rainbow, speedy or exotic, California, Minnesota and Virginia in no particular order.
I stand partially corrected. If you are like me and live out in the sticks then mail is for sure the way to go. But if in town and you only need a few then the local big chain stores are quite competitive...I don't know where they source their worms and that would be a concern of mine however...
Yes I have, however when purchasing 5 to 10 THOUSAND the pet stores are quite expensive. We have a local pet store we visit for just that but being out in the boonies they are ridiculous on price.
I have read through a few of the other threads including the 8 thousand plus one...geesh, regarding mealworms and though I have looked up the recommended breeders for my starter colony many of them are located quite far from me here in CO. It is that time of year where we are having wild temp...
Just saw Ferhingers is just south of Sidney and really not too far from me and may be cheaper then re sell in Brighton. Ill call both here in a bit. Thanks
Wow, I did not know that Ranchway did custom mixes like that. I am getting ready to call some places here in a bit but I wonder if they sell whole form unprocessed?
Appreciate the input! We currently feed ranch way crumbles to our layers, meat birds and chicks from a good local source near me in Brush. However we want to switch over to whole grains sourced as local as possible....front range is fine and ferment the feed in addition to bulk options custom...
Thanks, Maggiemo and CO chip! I will call both of them tomorrow. Unfortunately today I am going to be heading to town to pick up some Sevin Dust......My neighbor nicely brought over some roos for us to butcher yesterday for him and one laying hen to give to the kids and unfortunately they were...
Hello All again. We are in the process of switching our chickens over tow a whole grain fermented diet and right now getting prices and locations for said grains. We live in Eastern CO and all of the sources around me only carry non organic. Depending on final prices we may incorporate some...
Zip ties have issues in my intense sun of colorado and are just too temporary for my liking on something like this. I love zip ties but not for here and would like to have ring pliers around anyways. I do appreciate your input.
I live in the middle of nowhere and have to order my items in most the time and in this case definitely have to. I am building a pair of chicken tractors asap and would like to form arches using cattle panels and would like to use hog rings to join them together. I have looked and made...
