Hang in there, we are getting more eggs now than the family can eat and starting to routinely give some to neighbors. It's a pretty cool hobby, too. That was something I hadn't really thought about a few months ago when we started on this adventure. Awesome coop, by the way!- terriclark

Thanks, my hubby built the coop and I think he considered the hardware cloth. That may be our next improvement.- terriclark

First eggs-soft shelled.
Our RIR just laid her first egg a few days ago and they are little brown hard shelled eggs, very tasty! This evening we went out to check on the girls before bedding down and our Orpington had just laid her first, however it was soft shelled and they tried to eat it.
