    Naked Neck/Turken Thread

We have a few hatchery Naked Necks (5 pullets) and am wondering, if and when I want to get better stock, ones that you can show, where do I even begin to look? I love this breed because of their uniquess, personality and the huge eggs they lay. The last hen we had layed quarter-pounders with...

    Comb Contest - V! - Winner Announced!

Are "V-shaped" combs the least popular? Some of the other types have 100s of photos and we barely have two pages...

springtime post your new chick pics

Here are our two Austra-White hens who both went broody at the same time so co-sat on a clutch of 10 eggs. Eight of them went on to hatch. The father is a white-crested black Polish but so far the babies have more of their moms' markings, white with scattered black spots.

Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

This question may have been asked before but I don't really want to have to weed through nearly 1,000 posts, as interesting as they are. Should I worry about our cats getting the newly hatched chicks? These chicks have two moms so SHOULD have lots of protection but will they? Right now, when...

    Comb Contest - V! - Winner Announced!

This is our 2-year old Polish rooster who does not have a name, or at least not a nice one now that he's sexually mature and not afraid to use those spurs!

Isn't the LAYING hen supposed to sing the egg song?

My Partridge Cochin rooster does the "egg song" too! I heard him doing it this morning and rushed out to get the egg and it had already been eaten. But, that's another topic...

    Guinea psychology question about doors

I have a question for any guinea fowl people. Why do they like to peck at my back door? I have lived in two different houses and have had several flocks of guineas, none related to the other, and every flock has had this attraction to our back doors. On one house the back door was multiple...

    Eggs not hatching...why?

I have one bedraggled hen and one amorous rooster (both Standard Cochins) and after the third batch of rotten eggs, still no chicks. The hen has set on three clutches of eggs and each time winds up kicking them into the middle of the chicken house. This last batch was stinky! :o My question...

    Calf hut as chicken house?

On the subject of wind...we had so much at 2 this morning that it turned our trampoline upside down onto my bird feeder stand (bent it all the way to the ground), smashing a stone bird bath. The trampoline mat is history too. So, whatever I finally decide on a chicken house will have to...

    Calf hut as chicken house?

I am interested in using a calf hut or similar hoop-style building as a chicken tractor and am wondering if anyone else is doing this? My concern is will they stand up to bad Kansas weather (hail, sun, snow, wind, etc) and will they get too hot in the summer? Also, how to do nests and perches...

    Experience with Chick-N-Hutch?

Hello to everyone who posted on my question about the Chick 'n' Hutch. I did take it back yesterday and don't regret doing so. I have looked at that same pen many times on various websites and each time thought, "Naw, it's too small". My gut instinct was correct.

    Experience with Chick-N-Hutch?

On a whim this morning I bought a Chick-N-Hutch at a Tractor Supply store with the thought I would use it as a transition pen for baby chicks and keats. Now that I've got it home I am beginnning to have doubts since it looks terribly small. Does anyone have any experience with this pen? What...
