Paranoid and anxiety filled after hawk attack (I'm talking about ME!!)

You're totally right. My problem is that my girls free range in their side yard and have access to shelter and they are secure at night, but what I saw in the video was the hawk jumped down into the run and walked into the coop in the middle of the day... My girls are not as protected as they...

Paranoid and anxiety filled after hawk attack (I'm talking about ME!!)

Oh my - she was really pretty. This makes me really nervous. I just watched a video on you tube of a hawk going into a coop and killing a hen. you couldn't see it, but hear it. It was horrible. I know it can happen at anytime, but it doesn't make it feel ok. RIP Rana.

Paranoid and anxiety filled after hawk attack (I'm talking about ME!!)

I'm really sorry about your loss. I do have a stupid question though since I spotted a hawk for the first time while I had my two pullets in the front yard yesterday. Do the hawks usually pick up the pullet/hen and carry them away? I was really nervous, but the pullets looked to be the same...

    photos of crusted speckled comb

Thank you. the first thing that appeared was a drop of fresh blood. I though it was a bug bite or that she nicked it on a branch. then over time more scabs... Do you still think that is fungal? I can't imagine where she could have contracted it?

    photos of crusted speckled comb

can anyone tell me what is going on here? I have 3 pullets and my Cochin is the only one with a big comb and wattle. I noticed her comb bleeding one day and she has little scabby areas (I presume). I don't see any mites. We are in a hot dry climate. she seems absolutely fine otherwise. I...

how to manage maggots in the coop?

LOL - I used to be an animal cruelty investigator and had to see a lot of animals in conditions you couldn't even imagine and maggots often played a terrible role. Maggots in my industry were never a good thing and they have left me with some pretty gruelish memories. I know everything has...

    Coop Flooring

Hi - the maggots are in the coop. It is sloped since we have a pool, but I think the sand and the bricks I elevated the coop on (to level it) kept the water in. I am going to talk to my husband and have him figure out a way to slide plyboard in on top of the bricks so the floor will be wood...

how to manage maggots in the coop?

THANK YOU - I live in Chino, CA near the dairies so there is always an abundance of flies. I have now just given them a new place to visit. I'll be searching for fly predators now!

how to manage maggots in the coop?

Yes, I saw them in there eating them. I give them mealworms, but maggots are beyond disgusting!!

how to manage maggots in the coop?

Thank you - the coop itself has a roof and it is on bricks not sure if you can them in the photo (grey color). My concrete is not level so that water can drain into a hole and out to the gutter (we have a pool) The sand just worked like a sponge and since the covered part of the coop faces the...

    Coop Flooring

I have a similar problem but my coop in on concrete and it was filled with 3 inches of coarse construction sand. Unfortunately with a tiny bit of rain it turned into a biological maggot infestation within a few days. Today I am removing and bleaching everything, but now am really worried about...

how to manage maggots in the coop?

I am so glad I found this thread!! I as horrified to find maggots and all sorts of creepy crawlies when I was scooping my coop today. I use construction sand and clean it once a week. I am new to this and apparently water accumulated in their with a short burst of rain. Since the sand is on...
