Had one of my baby hens bite me a few weeks ago. She's a sweetheart really, though. Not sure why she did that. Anyway, the baby roo is getting to be a really big pain in the butt. Not sure what to do about him. If it's a roo you have, he will probably have a bigger comb and start acting more...
Oh, sorry! I just reread your post. I think if they are already together during the day, they should be fine at night. Just my opinion, though. Ours are all together. The babies just sleep in a different place. They haven't tried to roost with the older ones, yet.
Uh, we just integrated our 3 1/2 month old babies with our 1 1/2 year old hens. The babies still pile up together in their "baby" area. The big girls have the roost. There doesn't seem to be a problem other than the older ones will pick on the babies a bit, not letting them eat while they are...
We have 8 new "babies" and one turned out to be a rooster, and he's an Australorp, too. Small world. BTW, they are joking, but we are worried about him becoming aggressive, too. Currently, he seems pretty docile, but we just had to dispatch of our 1 1/2 year old EE rooster because he would...
We just mixed our 3 month old babies (8) with our 1 1/2 year old hens (9). Uh, they don't like each other too much. The older ones are mean and bossy to the younger ones, but they do tolerate each other. We didn't let the babies in with the big ones until they seemed about the same size.
LOL That was us last year. We bought the chicks, then made the brooder. They stayed in the box for 2 hours while it was being constructed. While they were in the brooder, we built the coop. That took a couple of months. Crazy, huh?
Thanks for replying, teach! Hopefully, I'm just paranoid. I went back out there and she did perk up a bit when an unlucky gnat flew into the brood pen. She's just not as lively as the others, but maybe she will be okay.
She is sleeping a lot, and hardly gets up. She always looks tired. When she eats, she lays down by the feeder. The others (8 all together) have been running around and carrying on like normal. They are all 2 weeks old. What could be wrong with her?
We have 3 dogs. The only one allowed out with the chickens is our Chocolate lab. She likes scaring them a little by walking close to them, but I think she just thinks they are funny. My other two can't be trusted. One is an American Eskimo Spitz. She attacked one of the birds that got in her...
This is our first loss, too. Here I thought we were doing so well. It's been 8 months without an incident. I suppose your luck has to run out at some point, but I was hoping for the best. I just walked around the entire property again, but I'm even more worried now. There is a possibility she...
