I've had some RIRs that looked very similar to that when they first started to feather out. To be honest though, I couldn't discern gender until about 12 weeks.
Someday, I too, hopw for no muddy season and my feather-footed breeds will look much less dirty! ;) They are otherwise gorgeous, but oh those muddy and poopy feet...
I am in Mass and was (pleasantly) surprised to find chicks at my local Agway on February 1st! WOW. Of course I had to snatch a few up ("Amerucanas" and a SLW) and they are in my dining room because it is waaaaay to far from Spring here to stick those babies outside.
And I want to double-thank you for your input. I have a ceramic heater in the coop and a red heat lamp in the run. Powered by an extension cord. It trips the GFCI every few days and I have to go reset it. I am no longer going to use these items.
Great show today! Thanks to everyone who helped out a newbie like me! I saw some wonderful birds, got 5 beauties to join me at home (Thanks Roberta for those beautiful Silkie babies!), saw lots of cool vendors, and was overwhelmed by this community of bird lovers. :)
NINE EXTRA ROOS? I just placed my Spring chick order from MPC. Now I feel like I should call them and specify that I do not want any extras, thank you very much. The heartbreak of giving away a pet combined with finding someone that wants nine roosters does not sound like fun. :(
How old are the BCM chicks? Any pullets for sale? I don't care about leg feathering, not going to breed/show, I just would love to have a bird that lays beautiful eggs like in your pic. :)
I was just reading Poultry Mag the other day and read about a new site - www.poultryshowcentral.com that lists poultry shows. Haven't checked it out yet.
