RIR - Gender Help.

Ok. I'll snap some tomorrow. They look like other RIR chicks that I have seen.

Any Idea if this is a Pullet or Cockerel?

That looks like a Cockerel. You can tell because he has a bright red comb, and it's slightly longer than a pullets comb would be at this age.

With chickens there is usually a 60% of getting a rooster, and 40% of getting a hen. I always get unlucky and get tons of roosters

If one chick survives, it's usually a cock. At least at my house.

This probably doesn't hold true but last year I bought 6 rir chicks from tsc. 3 light colored and 3 dark colored. Light colored ones turned out pullets, dark colored were cockerals. And by the way- no, the drop a hat trick didn't work to figure out the sex of chicks! Lol

Might be worth researching, I think I remeber something about roos having a stripe on their head. I think that is true for little chicks yours may be too big. Hope this may help.

Are you sure those are RIRs?

I've had some RIRs that looked very similar to that when they first started to feather out. To be honest though, I couldn't discern gender until about 12 weeks.
